What are Derelict Cars in Need for Speed Payback?

Derelict cars in Need for Speed Payback are the most desirable collectibles in the game and the best cars in Need for Speed Payback. There are five derelict cars to build and each has five parts to find. Once you have found all the parts of a derelict car you can customise it and turn it into one of the best cars in the game, and it can be any class you wish. Most cars in NFS Payback are given a class, be it race, off-road, drift, drag, or runner.

How to Unlock and Find Derelict Cars in Need for Speed Payback

On each of our individual derelict car guide pages we’ll detail exactly what you need to do in order to unlock each, but the general idea is that you need to complete a series of races and beat a boss for those races. You’ll be given the rough location of a chassis for a new derelict car, which when found gives you four more clues, each pointing to a rough location on the map where you can find another derelict car part.

While the clues don’t put a marker on the map, the locations are pretty easy to find and when you get close to the part an icon will appear above it and you’ll hear a proximity beep. Sometimes finding a part is as simple as driving up to it, while others will require a bit of looking around to figure out how to get the car to the spot the derelict car part is located - often it’s a case of finding a ramp to jump over an obstacle.

Keep an eye open for roads that aren't on the main map (usually dirt tracks). These little branches off the main routes often lead to higher ground and a ramp that will let you leap over chasms and onto the platform holding the car part.

How to Build Your Derelict Car in Need for Speed Payback

Once you’ve collected the final derelict car part for the car you’re finding parts for you’ll be given the option to build it. It’s at this point you decide which of the car classes you wish you use. Choose the class and you’ll have a stock version of the car you’ve found.

With derelict cars you can upgrade to performance level 300 in order to unlock Super Builds. Super Build cars allow for the most extreme visual customisation, so you better get upgrading if you want to stand out from the crowd.
