Breath of the Wild Xenoblade Chronicles 2 Quest Guide

First of all, if you haven't played Breath of the Wild in a while, you'll need to update the game in order to recieve the Xenoblade Chronicles 2 quest. When you next load up the game, you'll find the new Xenoblade Chronicles 2 quest waiting for you in your Side Quest menu. The quest will tell you to "look to the night sky" and find the three red shooting star locations, based on a series of vague descriptions.

These vague location descriptions are as follows:

  • "The southern sky from the middle of the largest bridge."
  • "The eastern sky from the skull's left eye."
  • "The southeastern sky from the peak of the tall, pierced snowy mountain."

We'll now tackle all of these locations from the top, but we should note that in order for the red shooting star to actually appear from the sky, you'll have to follow the instructions exactly as they're written. For example, with the first location, you'll have to be right in the middle of the Bridge of Hylia, and facing towards the southern sky for the red shooting star to actually fall from the sky.

So, once you've made it to the middle of the Bridge of Hylia any time after 9 pm, simply look towards the southern sky, and after a few seconds the red shooting star will fall from the sky, landing on the shore to the left. Simply head towards the location of the red beam on the ground, and you'll find a chest containing the Salvager Headwear.

For the location of the Salvager Vest item, you'll have to head into Northern Akkala, to the Skull Lake. Simply stand on the eye with the shrine (the quest text is somewhat misleading) and face towards the Akkala Ancient Tech Lab, to see the red shooting star fall from the sky. Head over to the red beam just a short distance to the east, and interact with the chest to recover the Salvager Vest item.

Finally, for the location of the Salvager Trousers, you'll have to head to the very top of Hebra Peak mountain. This could be quite a journey, even if you have discovered the Shrine near to the peak, so we'd recommend wrapping up in warm and/or climbing boosting gear, and make your way up to the very top of the mountain. You'll know you're in the right place if there's a rock with a Korok Seed underneath it at the very peak.

Once again, look towards the southeastern sky from any time after roughly 9 pm, and you'll see the red shooting star fall from the sky and land further down the mountain. Recover the chest at the red beam of light to claim the final piece of the Salvager armor set for yourself.

Just below, you can see Link in all his glory once he's recieved the Xenoblade Chronicles 2 armor set, every item of which provides a nice boost for his swim speed.

We might be done with the Xenoblade Chronicles 2 quest for The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, but head on back to our main guides hub for the game, if you need help with anything else at all in the massive world of Hyrule.
