Pokémon Go - Lucky Eggs, When to Use Them

Find out how to make the most of double XP in Pokémon GO. What are Lucky Eggs and when should you use them?

Guide by USgamer Team, .

If you're currently lower than level 30, there are many reasons why you'll want to be earning as much XP as possible to get there ASAP. In this Pokemon Go guide we'll explain Lucky Eggs and when you should use them in Pokemon Go.

If you want info on a topic other than Lucky Eggs in Pokemon Go, we've got you sorted with our Pokemon Go Guide Hub. Head over there when you're done here.

Not only do you gain access to every item the game has to offer so far, but it also means higher CP on wild Pokémon and higher max CP when powering up your own Pokemon. This is what makes the Lucky Egg item so interesting - it doubles the XP you gain for a 30 minute period after you use it, but they're not all that easy to come by without buying them. Because of this, it's in your best interest to make the most of them. Let's take a look at what you can do to get the most out of those 30 minutes.

Pokemon Go Lucky Egg Tips and Tricks

Stock up on Pidgey

Ahead of using a Lucky Egg, you'll want to ensure you have a good supply of Pidgey and Pidgey Candy. The reason for this is that they only require 12 Candies in order to evolve, and for your efforts you get a nice 500 XP, or 1000 XP with the egg active. This is one of the simplest methods, due to how easy it is to stockpile Pidgey. You can also substitute Pidgey for Caterpie or Weedle if you prefer, but stick to one so you don't waste Lucky Egg time scrolling through menus.

Save your 7 day streak

With a little planning and good timing, you can fire off your Lucky Egg before you catch a Pokémon or spin a PokéStop, while holding a 6 day streak. You normally earn 2000 XP for each 7 day streak, so that's 8000 XP total for both of them with a Lucky Egg. That's 16 regular Pidgey evolutions, and a great way to kick off your XP grinding session!

Stock up on 10km eggs

If you're ready for a Lucky Egg evolution session and aren't in a rush, it's worth looking at hoarding 10km eggs. When they hatch you'll earn 1000 XP, or a whopping 2000 XP with the Lucky Egg active. If you can hoard 9 eggs and walk them until they are close to finishing, that's an easy 18000 XP to put towards your next level. Just remember to back out of the menus occasionally to check if the eggs are ready to hatch, as they won't hatch while you're evolving Pidgey.

Wait for an event

If you can hold onto your Lucky Eggs long enough, it's worth waiting for an event that increases experience. Niantic has done this before, such as during the Easter event, where XP was doubled across the board. If you use your Lucky Eggs during this time, you'd be able to get a massive 4x XP. With 2000 XP per evolved Pidgey and 4000 XP for a hatched 10km, it's absolutely worth waiting if possible.
