Guide by Tom Orry, .

WWE 2K18 is coming and it looks set to be one of the best the series has seen in a long time. On this everything we know about WWE 2K18 page we'll detail the WWE 2K18 release date, list the large WWE 2K18 roster, and go into detail on the new graphics in WWE 2K18 and list any gameplay changes since last year's game.

WWE 2K18 Release Date

The WWE 2K18 release date is October 17. WWE 2k18 will release on PS4, XBox One and Nintendo Switch. WWE 2K18 is in development at Yuke's and Visual Concepts, with 2K handling publishing duties.

WWE 2K18 has Much Improved Graphics

WWE games on PS4 and Xbox One haven't been very graphically impressive. It's fair to say the series has looked a bit ropey since it made the jump to PS3 and Xbox 360, so it's great to see that the graphics engine is getting a big upgrade. WWE 2K18 includes a new rendering system, new skin shaders, real time reflections, and PBR (physically based rendering). The overall effect is a game that looks far more realistic than virtual wrestling ever has before.

WWE 2K18 Universe and MyCareer Mode Improvements

To match the current feeling of WWE on TV, across RAW, Smackdown, NXT and more, WWE 2K18's Universe mode will feel more organic and include more unexpected events.

My Career in WWE 2K18 is said to be more serious and story driven. The My Career mode will serve as the Glory mode, which is an end game for players who put time into their career.

In WWE 2K18 you’ll be able to choose to go down two routes: Company Man or Fan Favourite.

  • Company Man – This choice means you’re all about helping the general managers (GMs) achieve what they want from a show. You might be conspiring with them backstage, launching unprovoked attacks on other superstars, and anything else that will ensure GMs retain power. Helping a GM succeed will earn you upgrades and you’ll have access to Vince McMahon’s office.
  • Fan Favorite – this choice means you don’t want to get involved in the politics of WWE and just want to be a great wrestler for fans. Your goal is to earn the respect of other WWE superstars and become a legend. If you gain enough respect you’ll earn in-ring bonuses and get your own WWE Championship or Universal Championship.

Create-A-Wrestler fans will be pleased about improvements here too, with a new free camera for video creation, more effects and better editing tools. Arena creation tools have also had an upgrade.

MyCAREER Invasion

As was the case with WWE 2K17, your friends’ MyPlayer superstars can populate your save file. What’s new in WWE 2K18 is that you will see them backstage and even be able to interact with them. Whether this is through talking, teaming up for tag team matches, or ambushing them, the choice is yours and should make the experience feel more unique to each player.

WWE 2K18 Commentary

Commentary in sports game is often not great, but it's generally been exceptionally poor in WWE games. WWE 2K18 should benefit from some big improvements here thanks to the team working with the NBA 2K team (a game that actually has decent commentary!). Michael Cole, Byron Saxton, and Corey Graves are the lead commentators, and recording was given more time than usual - plus some of the dialogue was recorded with the commentators all in the same room.

Will WWE 2K18 Play Better?

All WWE 2K18's improvements wouldn't count for much if the core gameplay wasn't getting a significant overhaul. It seems, thankfully, that it is! The grappling and submissions system is getting a revamp, there's a new carrying system, and players will be able to "sell" their position in a match.

Semi related to gameplay is a new Promo engine and a progression system which unlocks upgrades and perks. A fighter archetype system also gives each wrestler the right set of moves to match their physique and style.

Backstage brawls, a key part of the WWE experience, have been enhanced with more interactive objects, a freeroam arena, and 1v1 online play. Also included are classic multi-wrestler match types, such as Royal Rumble, Battle Royale, Ladder matches, and 8-man Tag. WWE 2K18 will include mixed gender wrestling and changeable win conditions.
