Call of Duty: WW2 Best Submachine Guns Guide

Submachine guns are arguably the most popular class of weapon in Call of Duty: WW2, and for good reason. Since they mainly focus on fire rate and damage attributes, they're extremely good to use in close quarters, and since they're some of the lightest weapons in the game, they take less time to pull up from the hip and aim with.

Just below, we'll run down the best submachine guns in Call of Duty: WW2, as well as providing you with a detailed list of their strengths and weaknesses, pointing you in the direction of which game modes to ideally use them in.

Grease Gun - Call of Duty: WW2 Submachine Gun

First up in our list of best Call of Duty: WW2 submachine guns, it's the first weapon in the class that you'll be given at the very start of the game. The Grease Gun is a surprisingly powerful weapon, because what it lacks up for in fire rate, it more than makes up for in firepower and accuracy, able to take players down from surprising range.

Add on that you'll be able to unlock some decent attachments that can boost the range and accuracy of the Grease Gun even further, and you've got yourself an ideal submachine gun. For this weapon, you'll obviously want to use it in fairly close quarters, when you might be up against multiple enemies at once, so Team Deathmatch, Free-for-All, or even Hardpoint are all ideal choices.

PPSH-41 - Call of Duty: WW2 Submachine Gun

Although it lacks the accuracy and range of the aforementioned Grease Gun, the PPSH-41 is still more than deserving at the top of the range of best submachine guns in Call of Duty: WW2. The PPSH-41 keeps the same level of damage as the Grease Gun, but has an even higher rate of fire, meaning you can churn out bullets against enemies at close or medium range, especially with a magazine capacity of 35 bullets.

As for the best Call of Duty: WW2 multiplayer game modes in which to use the PPSH-41, we'd recommend anything where you're going to be in fairly close quarters. This could be Free-for-All due to the amount of enemy players, or Hardpoint, since you know rougly where all the enemy players are going to be on the map.

MP40 - Call of Duty: WW2 Submachine Gun

There's a reason that the MP-40 is the final submachine gun you'll unlock in Call of Duty: WW2. If you want a demo of how lethal the weapon can be, even from fairly long range, jump into the campaign and get your hands on one. The MP-40 is basically a submachine gun that can also function as a rifle whenever you need a ranged kill. It's flawless in virtually every situation, and the attachments you can unlock only boost its stopping power.

As you can probably imagine from our description of the MP-40, there's really not a bad situation in which to use the weapon. The MP-40 is excellent in generating kills no matter the situation, so it's obviously a fantastic weapon to use in Deathmatch games, but it's also great for defending and clearing out areas, making it an equally ideal choice for Hardpoint or Domination.

This might be the end of our best Call of Duty: WW2 submachine guns guide, but why not head over to our guide on the Nazi Zombies mode, where we break down in detail how you can rack up points as quickly as possible, and survive to the later rounds.

What's that old adage, "opinions are like a-holes, everyone has one and they all stink". The best guns of COD WWII is no exception.

My opinion is based on around 500 games of mainly hardcore, team deathmatch.

    1. BAR - The list is correct there, the best overall gun, regardless of distance
    2. FG42 & STG44 - A close tie to being the 2nd best rifles compared to the bar. The FG42 does a little better on range, the STG shoots faster so it's better up close
    3. MP40 - Best SMG
    4. M1A Carbine - Best sniper rifle (yes I know it's a regular rifle, but it out does all the snipes)
    5. MG-42 - Arguably the best LMG, close runner up is the MG-15

My opinion on the guns stated in the list above, the SVT-40 sucks, it jumps everywhere so you'll likely need to always use the grip to tame it. The 1941 and the PPsH on hardcore take way too many bullets to take someone down unless you are right on top of them. The Lewis LMG takes forever to reload, but the same can be said for just about all the LMGs, the difference being it's capacity is a lot less than a MG42 so you are reloading a lot more with the Lewis.
