Here's everything you need to know about the upcoming Resident Evil 2 Remake, including a potential Resident Evil 2 Remake release date, and aspects of gameplay.

Guide by Hirun Cryer, Tom Orry, .

First announced by Capcom back in 2015, the Resident Evil 2 Remake project has gone relatively quiet ever since it was first announced, with precious few tidbits of information announced by the game since. Nevertheless, we've compiled everything we know about the game into this one place, including the potential Resident Evil 2 Remake release date, as well as theorising about certain gameplay aspects of the upcoming game.

We'll make sure to keep this page updated with all the latest information surrounding the Resident Evil 2 Remake, especially as we near the 20th anniversary of the original Resident Evil 2, so you've got all the latest news in one place.

Resident Evil 2 Remake Release Date

As we mentioned at the top, the Resident Evil 2 Remake was finally announced by Capcom back in 2015, after years of fans repeatedly requesting a remake or remaster of the 1998 classic from developer Capcom. In August 2015, the video just below was posted to the official Resident Evil YouTube page, revealing Yoshiaki Hirabyashi to be the lead developer for the remake.

The video announced that the Resident Evil 2 Remake had finally been approved for development at Capcom, although Yoshiaki Hirabyashi stated it would be "some time" before we'd hear any updates on the game. It's unclear whether the project had been greenlit for pre-production or full production back in August 2015, but either way, we can fully expect the game to now be in full development almost three years later in 2018.

Outside of assumptions however, we’ve got few concrete details to go on surrounding the remake. But it should be noted that the 20th anniversary of the original Resident Evil 2 came and went on January 21, 2018. While Capcom clearly didn't announce details of the Resident Evil 2 Remake on January 21, that date falling on a Sunday didn't make it ideal for a big reveal. Could Capcom be set to announce any new details about the Resident Evil 2 Remake this week? We'll find out soon enough.

As we draw closer and closer to the 20th anniversary of the original Resident Evil 2, it appears Resident Evil's twitter account has changed its profile picture, to match the logo first seen in the reveal video with director Yoshiaki Hirabyashi. Could this indicate that an announcement for the Resident Evil 2 Remake is right around the corner?

Resident Evil 2 Remake Gameplay Details

But what else do we know about the upcoming Resident Evil 2 Remake? Like the original Resident Evil, the sequel featured fixed camera angles when it released back in 1998. However, we’ve recently seen a shift away from this fixed camera perspective from the Resident Evil franchise, especially with Resident Evil 7 in early 2017.

Does this mean that the Resident Evil 2 Remake could see a change from the fixed camera angles of the original and the sequel games? It’s likely that the answer to this question is no, especially when the remaster of the original Resident Evil maintained the fixed camera perspective of the original game. It’s still something to theorise about nonetheless though, and it’d be interesting to see if Capcom had ever considered changing the way the camera works in the Resident Evil 2 Remake.

Resident Evil 2 Remake Story Details

One thing that is even less unlikely to change is the story in the Resident Evil 2 Remake. Although we won't spoil any of the later story details of the original game (just in case you're yet to play it), the story of the 1998 game was set two months after the events of the original Resident Evil, and followed dual protagonists Leon Kennedy and Claire Redfield.

The original Resident Evil 2 followed both characters as they arrived in Raccoon City, and while Leon is a police officer in the middle of his first day on the job, Claire is a college student, looking for her brother Chris Redfield (protagonist of the original Resident Evil). The story of the original game is incredibly unlikely to be changed in the remake as we mentioned, so we can look forward to playing as both Leon Kennedy and Claire Redfield once more.

As of right now, these are absolutely all the details we have to go on about the Resident Evil 2 Remake. But as we mentioned previously, make sure to keep an eye on this guide, as we’ll keep you updated with any additional details announced by Capcom.
