Axe of the Blood God: Revisiting Final Fantasy XV and Our Second Chrono Trigger Report

PODCAST: We return to the RPG that's been getting a bit of backlash lately while also talking Chrono Trigger, Horizon Zero Dawn, the Switch, and Nier.

Article by Kat Bailey, .

Axe of the Blood God is our weekly RPG podcast hosted by Kat Bailey. You can find the previous episodes here.

In this week's episode of Axe of the Blood God (download link here), friend of the podcast Steve Tramer returns to talk Chrono Trigger, Final Fantasy XV, and a whole lot of other games over drinks. It's GDC!

Most of the episode is spent on Final Fantasy XV—an RPG that has been suffering an increasing amount of backlash over the past few months. We talk about Square Enix's odd move to turn it into more of an ongoing platform, the infamous Chapter 13, and whether Prompto really is like Ferris Bueller.

Also in this episode, we jump into what is suddenly an ongoing series: our second Chrono Trigger report! I talk about my experience with Zeal, my party composition (Frog FTW), and lots of other stuff. All this and more in the latest episode of our RPG podcast!

I always used Crono, Marle, and Ayla for most of the game because of Twin Charm, so I could steal everything from all the bosses. But then I couldn't beat Lavos with them, so I'd have to go out and grind up the characters I didn't use...

It's a good thing I had all that time to play games as a child. (*^▽^*)

@Dorchadas Loved getting all those Megalixirs through my two runs in Black Omen. And I abused getting those strength tabs.

The way you describe Final Fantasy XV reminds me of Yakuza!

Does anybody know which item can help avoid all those Magitek troopers? It's getting pretty annoying exploring the area around Hammerhead in the beginning.

I'm really enjoying these persona /chrono trigger reports. I know it's probably not practical, but a regular segment on unplayed classics you are only getting to now would be lovely.

You guys don't seem bitter at all about everyone else liking Horizon and the backlash to the review.
