Kid Icarus Remake Done By Fans in Only 7 Weeks

A small team has updated in the NES classic.

There have only been three Kid Icarus games in Nintendo's long history. The first one came out on the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) in 1986, followed by the Game Boy release, Kid Icarus: Of Myths and Monsters, in 1991. The series was dormant until Kid Icarus: Uprising on Nintendo 3DS in 2012, which was a very different game from the original.

A group of fans has taken its upon themselves to craft a remake of the original Kid Icarus. According to the official page, the game was made in seven weeks by a team of 12 people. What's on display isn't entirely a remake of the original. It carries forward some of the concepts, but the resulting game has only 10-20 minutes of gameplay and 2 types of enemies.

The full system requirements:

  • Windows 7 64-bit and up
  • GTX Geforce 560/Radeon HD 6950 or better
  • 4+ GB RAM
  • Quad Core 3+ GHz
  • At least 2 GB of free space

You can download the game on Itch.io for the time being. Maybe Nintendo's legal team won't come for them this time?

M.H. Williams is new to the journalism game, but he's been a gamer since the NES first graced American shores. Third-person action-adventure games are his personal poison: Uncharted, Infamous, and Assassin's Creed just to name a few. If you see him around a convention, he's not hard to spot: Black guy, glasses, and a tie.
