Marvel vs. Capcom Infinite Expands the Fight in 2017 [Update #2]

MvC 4 is real! Captain Marvel and Mega Man X join the fight in this brief teaser!

News by Mike Williams, .

Update #2: Capcom released another, extended gameplay trailer for Marvel vs. Capcom Infinite, this time with footage of Captain America and Morrigan!

Update: Capcom showed off a gameplay trailer for Marvel vs. Capcom Infinite at the Capcom Cup event this evening! The trailer is below.

Following earlier reports, Capcom took to the stage at PlayStation Experience 2016 to announced Marvel vs. Capcom Infinite! The trailer was entirely CG, showing a fight between series mainstays Ryu and Iron Man, with new challengers Mega Man X and Captain Marvel joining the fight!

The game seems to be focused on the Infinity Stones, according to information from the Capcom Unity blog. There will be 2v2 battles instead of the the 3v3 fights in Marvel vs Capcom 2/3, and a full cinematic story mode alongside Arcade, Training, and Mission modes.

Infinite will feature a new mechanic called Infinite Power, where players choose one of the six Infinity Stones to influence the battle, much like the classic Marvel Super Heroes.

There will be gameplay shown from the game at the Capcom Cup tonight! We'll update this post with that footage as it comes!

Marvel vs. Capcom Infinite is coming to PlayStation 4, PC, and Xbox One in late 2017.

That image alone sells the game. Ryu and Mega Man should always be on the same team, in the same game. Forever.

Here's hoping for no sidelining of popular characters just because other companies have the rights to make movies about them.

Anyhow, interesting that they're dropping back down to 2v2. I wonder why?

Show me the Xmen and we'll talk. They're the Marvel characters I care most about.

Otherwise this for me will be a game that I don't pick up but imagine will be very fun to watch at tournaments.

Slightly concerned about the blurb given with the trailer mentioning Infinity Stones and customisation (SFxT Gems, anyone?) but looking forward to seeing more.

While I’m still concerned about the possible removal of the X-Men characters (the two trailers don’t really indicate one thing or the other), I have to admit the inclusion of Mega Man X (finally!) is incredibly tempting as he is my favorite iteration of the Blue Bomber. The game also looks great graphics wise and gameplay wise.

@Mooglepies Based on the gameplay trailer, I have to assume it will be more similar to the original Marvel Super Heroes arcade game, where the Infinity gems gave bonuses to the characters when activated, with some in particular receiving special effects. For example, the Power gem increased the attack strength of the character that activated it during the fight, but it also allowed Spider-man to summon a doppelganger on the opposite side of the opponent that mirrored his movements, while giving Captain America extra hits for some of his special attacks. I suppose something similar will be at play here, with each gem giving different modifiers or special moves/attributes to each character.

I'm OK with no x-men but we need to delve deep into weirdness if we skip them.

    I need squirrel girl.

Will be weird without wolverine though.

The BGM in that first video: is it the ending theme from Mega Man X?

Hmmm...if it is focusing on the Infinity stuff does this mean we will finally see Mephisto, Thanos and Silver Surfer in the same game? Probably not, but I can imagine.

I care more that the Street Fighter characters are in it than the X-Men. Ditching the X-Men for Avengers seems like a smart choice and keeping with the times. Obviously it's the Avengers that the general public cares about right now, so they ought to be the stars for the Marvel side. It perfect sense.Edited December 2016 by brionfoulke91
