If you been waiting for Nidhogg 2 in order to get your dueling fix, your wait is almost over. Developer Messhof announced today that Nidhogg 2 will be coming to PlayStation 4 and PC (Steam) on August 15, 2017. One month away. The sequel will feature single-player, local multiplayer, and online multiplayer with more detailed arenas, character customization, and an expanded arsenal of weapons.
"There's a lot more level and weapon variety. The first game had four levels and one weapon. We'll have four weapons and ten levels at launch and hopefully more later," Nidhogg and Nidhogg 2 co-creator Mark Essen told USgamer back in March. "We had a few different weapons that we ended up scrapping. We had a battle axe that could cut through any other weapon. Weapons, you could throw low, but that just didn't work. These weapons had a lot of variations too."
"We wanted to change a variety of things in the game," Essen added. "Part it was I just wanted to try a different style for the fun of it. We didn't want it to feel like a better version of Nidhogg, we want it to feel like a different version of Nidhogg. We want [Nidhogg II] to feel like its own game."
While Nidhogg had a simple pixel art style, Nidhogg 2 goes in a different direction with odd, intriguing artwork by artist Toby Dixon. You can really feel the love when one fighter madly stomps on the head of another. That's the kind of love the world needs.
