Pokemon Go Getting 80 More Monsters From Gold and Silver This Week [Update: Johto Monsters are Live]

Plus more berries, additional clothes, and other perks.

News by Kat Bailey, .

Update: The Johto update is officially live. We've got a look at all of the new evolutions here.

Pokemon Go continues to chug along in the wake of a recent Valentine's Day event. Niantic announced that they will be adding many more creatures from Pokemon Gold and Silver, as well as additional items.

The update will bring in the bulk of Pokemon's second generation, which includes popular monsters such as Cyndaquil, Skarmory, and Marill. It follows on from a December update that added baby Pokemon such as Pichu.

In addition to the new monsters, Pokemon Go will be adding a number of items, including new evolution items. The new Pinap Berry will double the amount of candy received if the next catch attempt succeeds, while the Nanab Berry will slow a monster's movements. There will also be additional hats, shirts, and pants available.

In the months since its initial release, Pokemon Go has managed to defy predictions that it would burn out, though it no longer enjoys the highs it did at launch. In particular, it remains quite popular in urban centers, where it's easier to find PokeStops and gyms. Its biggest problem? It gets to be quite the grind once you hit a high enough level.

The forthcoming update suggests that Pokemon Go still has plenty of legs, and should remain popular going forward. It certainly won't be running out of monsters anytime soon.

The game media twist your nose but the game still earn a lot of revenue. Get a solid base. I wonder if people who live in cities spend money with the game, because you get pokestops in every corner while in small cities are very sparse.

@Spectreman In my experience (I work in Washington D.C.), I don't spend a ton of money in the game, but I do spend a bit occasionally. Usually for inventory space upgrades, and occasionally for lure modules, because even though there's a ton of stops in urban areas, that doesn't necessarily mean all the players roundabout will actually keep them lured up regularly.

@Spectreman I live in Chicago, and while I play it every day while on public transit, over the last seven months I've spent $1 to buy some extra egg hatchers. There just isn't reason to spend more when I've got stops everywhere.

Nice update in the balls and fruit interface. The fruit that give extra candy is going to be very handy with rare pokemons.
