The Final Fantasy XII Team Will Consider Another Ivalice Game With the Right Feedback

Start writing letters, folks.

This article first appeared on USgamer, a partner publication of VG247. Some content, such as this article, has been migrated to VG247 for posterity after USgamer's closure - but it has not been edited or further vetted by the VG247 team.

With Final Fantasy XII: The Zodiac Age out in July and a themed raid on the way to Final Fantasy XIV: Stormblood, Ivalice is back in style. And this might just be the beginning if things break right.

In discussing the return to Ivalice in Final Fantasy XII, producer Hiroaki Kato said that the team would consider another game set in the region under the right circumstances.

"The reason Ivalice sort of faded away was that the original development team that made Final Fantasy XII all separated into different projects, which made it difficult to make another game set in Ivalice," Kato said.

But the HD remake has brought the team back together, opening the door once again for projects set in Ivalice. "Once [Final Fantasy XII: The Zodiac Age] has been released we'd like to feedback from players. Looking at that feedback, we'll consider whether we want to make another game set in Ivalice."

Ivalice has appeared on and off in Square Enix's games going back to the mid-90s. Its distinct aesthetic and cutthroat politics have made the region a favorite with a vocal contingent of fans. It last appeared in 2008's Final Fantasy Tactics A2: Grimoire of the Rift, which received mixed reviews on the Nintendo DS.

If Square Enix does revisit Ivalice, it won't be the first time that fans have had an impact on their plans. Back in 2013, director Hajime Tabata told us that fan feedback was enough to convince Square Enix to make an HD version of Final Fantasy Type-0.

Regardless of what they make next, it seems like the Final Fantasy XII team is back for the forseeable future, which should lead to some interesting projects in the future.

Final Fantasy XII: The Zodiac Age will be out July 11 on the PlayStation 4.
