Torchlight II Crosses Two Million Sold

The sequel to Runic' dungeon crawler outperforms its predecessor.

Runic Games has announced that Torchlight II surpassed two million in sales over the weekend. The game reached the one million milestone in January, just a few months after its September 2012 release date. The first Torchlight needed two years to reach just one million in sales.

"I'd just like to say a big thank you to all the players who offered their suggestions on what we could improve, and who stuck with us and supported us during development. It wouldn't have been possible without you, and we're humbled and grateful at your response," said Runic Games president Travis Baldree.

"We are overwhelmed by the reception for Torchlight II. To hit this milestone is a testament not only to our dedicated development team, but also to the greatest, most positive gaming community I've ever seen," added Runic Games CEO Max Schaefer.

Torchlight II's level and mod editor, Guts, was released in April alongside Steam Workshop integration. That plus the recent Steam Summer Sale probably increased the title's rate of sales.

Excellent news for Runic. A bit surprising to hear that the first Torchlight took 2 years hit the million mark. Both are good games, the second is a significant improvement over the first.
