Not to mention that while aiming at something already visible on the screen was fine with the Wii, if you needed to aim behind you there were no good control schemes to quickly turn around (that I played anyway!)

Seemed pretty good, I’m not sure about using any plot from Rise as I thought most elements in that game were inferior to the 2013 reboot but Walton Goggins should make a great antagonist. We didn’t get to hear much from Vikander in the trailer, so it’s not clear how well she’s doing with the posh English accent the part requires. Still, at least so far it looks a lot better than the Angelina Jolie films, although I suppose that’s a pretty low bar to pass...

It's a great comparison video, I loved the PS1 port back in the day although despite playing the PC version quite a bit I never noticed the differences that John spotted. I did notice the nice sector lighting, the transparency effects and the awesome new music but not the changes to level layout or the sound effects.

It's a shame Bethesda didn't maintain the iOS port of Doom as it was a lot of fun and these days it could support MFi controllers.

The trouble with a question like this is I'm tempted just to nominate my favourite game ever (Super Mario World) rather than trying to pick something undeniably seminal in the history of gaming. Not that SMW isn't a well regarded game, but it perfected the 2D Mario game rather than invented it.

I think therefore I agree with Nadia, Super Mario Bros. is one of the most important games ever that future generations should play. Not only did it inspire and guide all the subsequent Mario games but it also helped make Nintendo successful and therefore spawned all the other games they created. Super Mario Bros. is the proverbial acorn that grew into the biggest oak tree ever.

@MetManMas I'm trying to stay positive. ;) The 60fps was so integral to Doom that I'm hoping they've not compromised in that area. IIRC the Xbox One version was 900p so I'm hoping a docked Switch might just squeeze 60fps at 720p. That said, I suppose if it was 60fps they'd have been shouting about it to the press by now!

The quality of the video from the Direct feed was really poor so it's hard to make fair comparisons. That said, what I've seen so far looks fine, I just hope it's 60fps!

I'd prefer a sequel to Fusion which follows up Samus' predicament being fused with her new suit. Fusion is great as it is and doesn't need remaking.

I'm enjoying Samus Returns so far, although I think they could have been a bit less full on with the amount of damage enemies do. Nintendo should definitely let MercurySteam do another 2.5D Metroid (preferably on the Switch this time).Edited 5 days ago by Unknown

So basically it's missing all the bits I never used the first time I played it. I'll definitely be grabbing this at launch.

It's been ages since I played Echoes, I do remember I never managed to finish it. I think there was some sort of fetch quest towards the end which required me to keep switching between Dark and Light to collect some hidden items and I just gave up having to hunt around for stuff (the same thing put me off Wind Waker). There was also that really annoying morphball boss fight...

It's a shame as I liked a lot of the other ideas and coming up with new gear for Samus instead of trotting out the same old upgrades that are in every game was also a good move.

I'm really hoping they've managed to keep the 60fps gameplay. I'd be happy with sub-720p or lower in return for 60fps (or at least have it as an option). Also in the wake of Splattoon 2 I really hope they've got gyro aiming in there. Short of keyboard and mouse there's nothing quite as fast an accurate for aiming in an FPS on console IMHO.
