@Traffe I'm impressed with the online racing so far, even though it does feel a little on the limited side (one race is generated every 20 minutes). Matchmaking seems to work very well, and I like that there's an extensive qualifying session for grid placement. The sportsmanship rating system seems to be in the mind of most players, and I'm seeing fairly good behavior on the track. Hopefully that will continue.

Ultimately, online racing feels fairly inclusive, and I think most players should be able to enjoy the experience.

@VotesForCows Heya! Yes. there's a very modest selection of Subarus. I'm not sure if it's random, but the first car I was gifted was a WRX Type S.

I'm playing the game on a regular PS4 with a dualshock controller, and so far I don't have any complaints other than it's definitely tricky to control some of the super high-performance cars due to the twitchiness of their handling. You really have to drive the game with a high degree of finesse, and it's quite exacting in that sense. Regular cars work great with the controller, though, and I've got through all the license tests with silver or better (you win a prize car for doing that, as well as getting all golds). Definitely loving the game so far and am having fun - though I'm burning through its content at an alarming rate.

@videogamehistorian I certainly don't want to take credit for someone else's research, so I've added the key sources of information at the top of this article. I actually read through a lot of material that the Early Video Games wikipedia article cited to so I could editorialize this piece, so while your blog and the wiki article were very important in helping me put this together, they weren't the only sources of information used to compile this feature.

Ultimately, I'm glad that this important aspect of video games history is actively being researched, and while plenty of excellent work has been done so far, it's clear that there are still a few gaps to fill. I look forward to seeing what kinds of additional programs and innovations are uncovered through further investigation.Edited March 2017 by Unknown

@Compeau You can play the later version called Hamurabi at this site. It's basically the same game - but a later version that ranks you when you finish ten rounds or starve all your people.

@andrewsqual But I didn't actually compare Horizon Zero Dawn with Ghost Recon Wildlands. I also didn't review Horizon Zero Dawn, somebody else did, so you can't really compare the two scores. We're two separate people with different points of view. For all you know, I might absolutely love Horizon Zero Dawn.

@Dwyane-Minton-of-Wes Ah! So lovely to hear from you, my much-maligned old friend. I'll definitely be writing more articles like this in the future, so keep an eye out for them on USG! Maybe I'll even get around to talking about you at some point! =)

@VotesForCows I'm just as amazed that people still remember Mean Machines a quarter of a century later. By luck, more than judgment, it seems that we managed to become part of the gaming culture of the period. I'm so glad our sometimes very strange ramblings and odd sense of humor are so fondly regarded.

@DC--R1D3R Thanks a ton for the kind words! What you read in the magazine was very much how we were in real life - ridiculously enthusiastic about gaming, and always making jokes and fun of each other. Working on Mean Machines was a ton of fun. We worked crazy long hours, but I think the effort was well worth it!

@VotesForCows Cheers! Glad you enjoyed the piece. It was a lot of fun digging through these old mags looking for classic covers!

@NotCarolKaye People used to write letters to the magazine with comments, ideas, pictures and all sorts of stuff. We certainly weren't immune from what the readers thought of what we wrote about!
