I began gaming on the Atari 2600. Since then I've been fortunate enough to own most of the major gaming consoles & handhelds. I hold no allegiance to any one platform; I simply follow the content. A gamer, through and through.

Taken as a pure handheld, perhaps the battery life would be more troublesome. However, the joy-con controllers have batteries that reportedly last up to 20 hours. Just dock it, and continue playing on your TV. Out and about? Charge it using any standard USB-C cable. I'm thankful Nintendo didn't go with a proprietary charger, as they have in the past.

The internal storage while disappointing is easily remedied by affordable, non-proprietary, micro SD cards. Hardly ideal, I admit, but a welcome option all things considered.

The online subscription plan has me nervous, admittedly. I don't believe Nintendo can deliver an service that rivals PSN, much less XBL; Not on functionality, features, usability, or value. It could be a real problem, I fear.

Of note, more of my friends and family have pre-ordered the Switch than bought the Wii U. A small sample size, yes, but heartening nonetheless.

In the console space, the Switch is a journeyman middleweight fighting in the heavyweight class. I'd rather the system weigh-in as the undisputed super middleweight Champion of the World, for which it is, than another Heavyweight Championship contender, for which it isn't.

I respectfully disagree. $250 seemed like the sweet spot to me... before the event. But when you consider that Nvidia sells it's own Shield device for $200, how can you fault Nintendo for asking $300? For starters, they need to pay Nvidia for the tech. After you factor in the dock, cables, screen, batteries, joy-con controllers (w/ HD rumble, accelerometers/gyro-sensors, infrared motion camera, NFC reader/writer), little to none of which Nvidia includes, you begin to see their dilemma. I do agree that the accessories on their own are overpriced, and that 1, 2, Switch should have been a pack-in game. Still, I'm buoyed by the fact that the most powerful portable games system ever made is getting Nintendo's undivided attention - for a mere $50 more than my ideal price.

The most damning criticism of any product, particularly a games console, is a lack of identity. Love 'em or hate 'em, those joy-cons give the system personality. They're quirky and, dare I say, cool. By contrast, the Wii U had no identity, lacked personality, and was never once accused of being cool - by anyone. I'd also argue that the original Wii suffered in the long term more from a lack of HD capability than motion controls. The games looked and played just fine through component cables on an SDTV. It wasn't until you hooked them up to an HDTV that you were treated to a very harsh reality.

Thanks again,@MHWilliams. I somewhat hastily pre-purchased Witcher 3 on Steam over the summer. I'm afraid I may live to regret that decision.

I have only 2GB VRAM, so this was incredibly helpful. Thanks, Mike. Any word yet on GTAV or Witcher 3 specs?

While "Ultra Suplex Hold" isn't a very good name, "Ultimax" makes it sound like a highly absorbent feminine hygiene product.

The driver from OutRun. He's got the car, the girl, and the open road. What else do you need?

    SUPER MARIO SUNSHINE ALTERNATIVE:

When I think of Mario's FLUDD, I think of a geyser. When I think of a geyser, I think of Bière de Champagne. When I think of Bière de Champagne, I think of "DeuS Brut des Flandres."

For Late Afternoon/Evening: Place bottle of DeuS in bucket, fill with ice. Once cold, carefully open, pour into flute glass, enjoy!

For Morning/Early Afternoon: Combine 32 ounces of fresh squeezed orange juice, 4 ounces of Galliano L'Autentico, one 750ml bottle of DeuS into a pitcher, and gently stir. Pour into flute glass, garnish with orange peel, enjoy!

Ubisoft Montreal is said to be working with Ubisoft Reflections on this. Hopefully, that means we can expect a superior driving model.
