I think I'm with Caty here. Monokuma is pretty strong.

I've never liked the Early access model and don't like the rolling release model more and more games are taking, but I think PUBG is big enough to make an exception. When something reaches the level it has, and is fresh and entertaining enough to hang with the biggest releases of the year in one of the best video game years on record, discounting it just because it doesn't have a 1.0 version out yet seems to be missing the forest for the trees. I get why sites need to have clear rules for review purposes, but if the GOTY awards are meant to recognize the best and most impactful things people played this year PUBG certainly should be on the list. Holding off til next year seems ahistorical.

Can't say I get the pushback against the trailer (granted, I don't think showing another trailer like this helps the game at this point), it does lack context but it I would give it a benefit of a doubt for most games (though I get why Cage's track record doesn't exactly earn it).

But Cage's dodges regarding his choices is completely bizarre for someone who says he wants games to be taken seriously. It just reinforces the impression that he's a hack. I have a feeling this is the last major project he's going to get backed.Edited 3 weeks ago by Unknown

Setting is super promising and looks pretty, but saying it's another "open-world" game does nothing for me at this point.

Metal Gear Solid 3 is one of the best games of all time people, just saying.

The Trails games are worth checking out Caty, but the Persona relationship stuff ultimately is fairly superficial, not a proper mechanical hook like in the Persona games.

My biggest blindspots are mostly classic CRPGs and RTSs.

@davedalrymple11 Yeah I'm not sure how I feel about this. It definitely is a step down from what I would have expected from XSEED and there are some typos, but I haven't seen anything egregious from what I've played. I hope nobody skips it due to headlines like this.

Geez first we find out Mario is a fraud by not really being a plumber anymore, now we find it he's an animal abuser. Talk about character assassination!

I could see the argument for SNES as number 1, although I do think it was the less exciting middle between the breakthroughs of the NES and PS1. It does benefit from time and place that many games still look and sound appealing (poor Gensis is saddled with that rough soundchip). It's got some heavyweight platformers and rpgs blossomed during the period, but I don't know if it has enough beyond that to be GOTY. I'd probably favor PS360 (take your pick) for deeper libraries.

Yeah whatever. This is just the latest industry trend that will run it's course sooner than later. Eventually everyone will realize that: 1) the model will only work for certain types of games, and will fail spectacularly when shoehorning it into everything, and 2) there's really only enough oxygen for a handful of games that can be the runaway successes everyone is chasing. And then the AAA guy will be chasing the next trend.

All I know is that if they are going to plan more fragmented experiences like FF XV in the future it will be the final nail in the coffin as far as my interest.

@fretto I actually have already. (Vita remote play for the win!)

Oh god has Switch port begging become a meme? Maybe that means it will cool off soon. Relatively uncompromised gaming experiences on the go is great and all, but the amount of "this would be great on Switch" comments from media people (not just rubes in the comments) has started to wear thin after 6 months.Edited September 2017 by Unknown
