Game developers get one release. One chance to make a first impression. Early Access is just a marketing term to let the consumer know the game might be kinda busted, but if the developer has no problem asking for money for it the game should be weighed equally against all others.

I mean outlets not reviewing it is crazy to me. Why both reviewing a game that's been on sale for potentially years? It sold 20 million copies! I mean that's 20 million players who paid real money for the game. And if that game is the best game they've played all year who cares if it's Early Access?

I mean when Battlefield 4 launched it was totally busted, right? And it's review scores suffered for it. Rightfully so. PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds should be held to the same standard.

tl;dr - If you charge money for a game it's 'released'. Early Access or not.

Bad Cop and Accuse feel kind of the same. Surely a "bad cop" is going to accuse someone of something they don't know for certain they did? Maybe the wording should have been 'Believe/Interrogate/Accuse'? I really like that game, but it's a mess in more ways than one... I can't wait for newcomers to experience that final case...

"But you know what? We believe reinventing that wheel every friggin' time is what makes a better game. It's what creates innovation and makes it possible for us to say we've worked really hard on something[.]"

I hate this quote so much, and you know it's coming from someone who is in a far more senior position than most at that company. Making games is hard, but this notion that people should be willing to ruin their lives to make them is ridiculous. It's not just video games, it's every job that does this to their workers then says "well if you love it enough you'll do it".

The issue with the Switch is it's designed for wifi, and these 100-player games need super low latency. I get everyone will be on an equal playing field, but yeah, wifi and serious multiplayer games are a bad mix.

@MHWilliams No, sorry, you did make it clear. It's more that it's annoying to think Vanaman could win, so I was probably speaking more off the cuff than normal. Again, I really do think PewDiePie is an idiot, and frankly, I'd never casually drop the n-word no matter how mad I was. It says a lot about his character. Anyway, weaponizing DMCAs is a bad idea, I think that's clear.
@camchow I think you not wanting to buy Ethan Carter after watching a Let's Play video says more about you and how you feel about that game than the game itself. Not in a bad way, but lets put it this way - I've avoided spoilers for Resident Evil 7 all year and totally plan on buying the Gold edition in December. We choose to watch single-player games on YouTube or Twitch to aid in purchasing decisions, or because we'd rather watch someone play the game than buy it.

Also, the Star Wars analogy falls apart because of the interactive nature of games. People giving honest opinions about what they're experiencing is fair use in my eyes. Of course, you and I are just two people on the internet. This will go to court one day, maybe not in this instance, but one day. And then we'll see where the chips fall.

I think we all want the gray area to stay. For all the commentary-free Let's Plays that I'm not interested in, and could harm game sales, there are some really good content creators who could get screwed and have actually encouraged me to try games I may have overlooked.

You're totally right about Overwatch and games like that, but then again what if Vanaman got his way and then Activision-Blizzard starts threatening videos critical of their games? It could happen.

My real point is developer totally own their work, but once it becomes a product we can buy and is openly available to the public they give up SOME rights. I mean art needs criticism, and a lot of great art borrows (or steals) from other art. I mean Disney didn't invent Snow White, Beauty and the Beast, or Cinderella, but they sure did use them to make great stories.

Maybe I'm getting off point haha and hey, full disclosure: I work at a YouTube gaming channel.

Side note: Playing The Vanishing of Ethan Carter alone in a dark room is worth it, even if you think you've seen it all. If it goes on sale I'd recommend you try it.

Why do you need the dongle? The PS4 controller uses Bluetooth. Seems odd to me. Good deal though.

The reality is making a false DMCA claim is perjury. There's no two ways about it, and it can carry a prison sentence. I mean if Vanaman wants to roll the dice, go for it. But he's going up against a multi-millionaire with nothing to lose. PewDiePie acted like an idiot, and I won't make excuses for him, but this isn't what DMCAs are for.

@InexactQuotient Do you not remember that huge lawsuit? Sorry, but Bethesda's games will NEVER come to Rift.

I agree with you about Breath of the Wild. I beat it this week (late to the party) and as much as I enjoyed it, it's far from my favourite Zelda game. Like you, I think it was the total lack of memorable dungeons that let me down the most, though I don't think Zelda have to have dungeons to be great. Twilight Princess, which I still consider to be the most soulless game in series, had dungeons, yet I'm hard pressed to remember even one of them. Quality dungeons matter the most.

Breath of the Wild is a great game, it's just not a "10/10", "Masterpiece", "Greatest Zelda ever", that so many media outlets labeled it. I mean it's all subjective, of course, but the race to gush all over Breath of the Wild was strange to me.
