These are surreal times, my friends. Shenmue 3, FFXV (as versus 13), FFVII remake, and TLG are things that have been on my mind for almost ten years. I had all but given up on them.

Laguna, the protagonist that should've been.

This is an amazing game so far. I've just reached the point where you start taking missions from citizens. I'm playing it mainly on a Playstation TV, where it could actually pass for an early PS3 game in terms of graphical quality--the upscaling doesn't do this game a disservice like it does certain others.

The graphical style is bland but the story and setting are fresh and interesting. I like that the goal in fights is saving citizens, not just mindless killing and destruction.

Being a Dark Souls fan I'm also enjoying the game's cruel sense of humor, like when your accessory suggests that you lie down to take a nap, only to entrap you into an added 10-year sentence for lying down without a permit!

This looks really fun! Retro Star Wars games are the best.

I actually have a Powerbook G4 at home that can play these games natively.

@cldmstrsn Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate is the best iteration of the series released so far in the West. If you like Action RPGs featuring deep customization, arcane mechanics, and only the slightest hint of a story, you'll be overjoyed. I personally loved the game, but Dark Souls has kept my attention for much longer.

@brianfoulke91 I heartily agree. Final Fantasy XIII is a well-structured experience overall, I just wish they had spent a little more time on the storyboarding and hired a better writer.

Ah, Final Fantasy XIII, the unlucky one.

I wonder whether the rushed production timeline for this game is what caused the first half to be relatively sparse. Maybe they didn't have time to really flesh out the experience. I've replayed FFXIII three times now and felt both acute frustration and intense excitement. FFXIII occasionally overcooks some of its best ideas and undercooks others. In it I see a product of a team committed to utter perfection but fundamentally lacking unity of purpose and an overarching vision--stronger direction and a sharper eye for editing would have produced a much more exciting experience. Paradigm shift may be the best ATB-based system, but there's a lack of complex party-building mechanics in the long run. Tetsuya Nomura's character work here is close to the best he's ever done, but a by-the-numbers plot doesn't give them an adequate stage on which to perform. All considered, XIII is a worthy Final Fantasy, just less than it could have been.

Thanks Bob! Will be picking up the DLC this evening. Although it seems inevitable that a Dark Souls II: Definitive Edition is on the way for gen 8 consoles, complete with all DLC, Dark Souls always provides more than enough value for the (probably excessive) amount of money I've spent on the series buying everything at launch (sometimes for multiple platforms).

Have you played Final Fanasy III (FC)? If not, you really should. It's really like a polished and expanded FFI and dear God is it difficult. It's the only FF I've started but never finished.
