Netflix Accidentally Confirms Rumored Resident Evil Series

The streaming service's own media center leaks the plot of the rumored Resident Evil show.

Back in January, it was reported that a television series based on Capcom's Resident Evil series was coming to Netflix. The show is apparently being produced by Constantin Films, the same production studio behind the existing Resident Evil live-action films and the upcoming film reboot. At the time, it was reported that the series would "explore the dark inner workings of the Umbrella Corporation and the new world order caused by the outbreak of the T-virus."

Netflix still hasn't officially confirmed the series, but the Resident Evil Wiki noticed a synopsis for the show has appeared on the Netflix Media Center. For a brief time, if you searched "Resident Evil" on Netflix's media new page, there was an entry for the show. The entry has been saved on the Internet Archive.

"The town of Clearfield, MD has long stood in the shadow of three seemingly unrelated behemoths— the Umbrella Corporation, the decommissioned Greenwood Asylum, and Washington, DC. Today, twenty-six years after the discovery of the T-Virus, secrets held by the three will start to be revealed at the first signs of outbreak," says the official description.

This follows a report by Redanian Intelligence, a site that has correctly reported on a host of information related to Netflix's The Witcher series. It found a production list that included an entry for the Resident Evil series. That list shows the production beginning in June, shot in South Africa. It also points to the show having eight episodes that will each be an hour long. Given the shooting schedule, it's likely that Resident Evil could be a 2021 series for the streaming service.

Again, Netflix has yet to officially confirm the Resident Evil series, but there's too much smoke here for there not to be a fire. Hopefully the television show leaps over the bar established by the Resident Evil films.
