Black Ops 4 Operation Spectre Rising Update - New Spectre Specialist, Blackout Map Flooding

Here's our complete guide to the new Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 Spectre Rising Operation update, including the new Spectre Specialist, the Blackout map changes, and all other content in the Black Ops 4 1.17 update.

There's a new Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 Operation out right now, and it introduces a new Specialist. Operation Spectre Rising introduces the new Spectre Specialist, as well as changing up the Blackout map in a neat new way. In our Black Ops 4 Operation Spectre Rising guide, we'll be taking you through everything you need to know about the new content, including the new Spectre Specialist, and much more contained in the Black Ops 4 1.17 update.

Black Ops 4 Operation Spectre Rising

Firstly, you'll need to own the Black Ops Pass to get access to Operation Spectre Rising, just as you would have previously had to own the pass to get access to the Operation Grand Heist content. The Black Ops Pass can be purchased for $49.99 on PC, PS4, or Xbox One.

Alternatively, you can purchase Black Ops 4: Spectre Rising Edition. This is a full price, digital only, retail version of Call of Duty: Black Ops 4, that comes bundled with the new Spectre Rising content. Note that this version of the game doesn't include the Black Ops Pass.

How to Unlock Spectre in Black Ops 4

The headline addition in Operation Spectre Rising is the new Specialist. Going by the Spectre moniker, very little is known about this operative, even though they're actually a returning character from Call of Duty: Black Ops 3.

Spectre's special weapon is the Shadow Bladed which, when equipped, changes your perspective to a third-person view, giving you a greater peripheral vision of the battlefield. You can also roll forward, dodge sideways, and actually backflip while wielding the Shadow Blade, making you by far the most nimble Specialist in all of Black Ops 4.

Spectre also has a smoke grenade. While this might seem like little more than the standard smoke grenade at first, it actually disables aim assist for all enemies caught within the smoke, making you more elusive. You'll need to unlock just one tier in the new Black Market to unlock Spectre in Black Ops 4.

Black Ops 4 Prop Hunt

Prop Hunt is back! Arriving first on PS4 and then on PC and Xbox One right around a month from now, Prop Hunt involves a team of players taking the roles of objects, hiding themselves in plain sight around the map.

When you think an enemy player is onto you, the prop player can strike the enemy player, temporarily concussing them and letting you escape. Props can take the form of a fence, barrel, or pile of logs, making this one massive (and deadly) game of hide and seek.

Black Ops 4 Blackout Wetworks Map Update

Contained within Operation Spectre Rising is the new Wetworks Blackout map update, which is actually free and won't cost you a cent. The Hydro Dam has now exploded, and so consequently the Factory, Rivertown, Cargo Docks, and the farm not too far from the Firing Range have all been hit by the flood, meaning right around half the Blackout map has now entirely transformed.

With the water level now rising between all these locations, it's going to make traversing the landscape a lot more difficult. Do you want to risk swimming between locations, going slowly and being exposed? If you can find a boat it'll be a lot easier to get around, but you'll draw a lot of attention to yourself with the noise.

Black Ops 4 New Blackout Characters

The Operation Spectre Rising content actually introduces new characters for Blackout, meaning the roster is bigger than ever, although you will have to pay for these new characters. Just below, we've listed all the new Blackout characters that are available as part of the new Operation:

  • Blackjack
  • Misty
  • Sarah Hall
  • David Mason
  • Sergei
