Pokemon Quest released May 30 on Nintendo Switch, the same day it was unveiled by Nintendo at a pokemon event in Tokyo. It's a little different to most core Pokemon games, in that it features a blocky art-style and passive battle system. It released first on Nintendo Switch, before arriving on iOS, Android a month later. One of the things players have been wondering now that Pokemon Quest is available on mobile devices is how to transfer a save to phone from Switch. In this guide, we'll take a look at whether it's possible to do so, using what we've gleaned from playing the game, and info available from the Pokemon Company.
For more on Pokemon Quest, including what's the best starter pokemon to use, every Pokemon Quest recipe explained, and more, head over to our Pokemon Quest Guides hub. It's filled with useful info for those who are just picking up the game after its mobile release, and for those who've been there from the start.
Pokemon Quest is a strange case in that it is the same game running on both a console and mobile. While we have seen this in the past, it's rare that the two versions are so similar to each other. As such, it's easy to see why a lot of fans are looking to transfer saves between phone and Nintendo Switch, especially after a month of building up an account on Switch. So can you transfer a Pokemon Quest account from Switch to phone? Let's find out.
When Pokemon Quest was revealed and released back in May, one of our chief concerns was whether or not players would be able to transfer a Pokemon Quest save to mobile, after having put so much work into their Nintendo Switch accounts. The Pokemon Company answered this question pretty soon after launch - and it's not good news. Speaking in a blog post on the game's official website, The Pokemon Company states:
Please be aware that save data from the Nintendo Switch version of Pokémon Quest cannot be transferred to the mobile versions nor vice versa. For more details about Pokémon Quest, please visit the official site.
This will no doubt be disappointing for many who were hoping to continue their Pokemon Quest journey on mobile, but unfortunately, for now at least, it seems that this is not possible.
Now that The Pokemon Company has dashed our hopes of being able to transfer saves between Switch and mobile, we can look to the future and see if it is likely to happen. Unfortunately, it looks pretty unlikely that Nintendo will implement the feature anytime soon. Nintendo is notoriously strict about transferring data between Nintendo Switch consoles, so allowing mobile to get in the act would be a huge jump for them.
One ray of hope comes in the form of everyone's favorite battle royale shooter, Fortnite. In Fortnite, you can use the same account for Nintendo Switch, Xbox One and PC. If Pokemon Quest is seen as a big enough property for Nintendo, it's possible that they will implement something similar. Here's hoping.
