Metal Gear Solid 5 Hellbound S Rank Guide - Mission 12 Walkthrough

Metal Gear Solid 5 Hellbound Mission Walkthrough - Mission 12 Guide

There are basically three sections to this mission, and they are broken up between the Serak Power Plant, the open land beyond it, and the Afghanistan Central Base Camp where Dr. Emmerich is being held. We advise that you deploy at 18:00 hours if given the option, as our goal is to have you through this mission in about 15 minutes. That should be more than enough to earn you the S Rank, although there are plenty of places to slip up along the way.

Head through the red door that leads to the power plant, making sure that the enemies nearby don’t see you. Head directly to your left, and then sneak along the left side of the map until you are clear of the power plant completely. This route makes your life fairly simple, but so does darkness. Keep your tranquilizer pistol handy, however, just in case you run into any enemies and need to silence them before they can alert their comrades.

When you’re clear of the base, it’s on to the Afghanistan Central Base Camp. There are several outposts and patrols between you and the camp, so remain cautious as you grab your D-Horse and start heading that way. Check your iDROID frequently (maybe even put waypoints on the outposts) to ensure that you aren’t surprised by any enemies along the way. If you’re going for the S Rank, you should restart from your last checkpoint if you are spotted at any point.

When you reach the Central Base Camp, sneak inside and stick to the very left wall. There are a lot of opportunities to get spotted, but going prone, or quick work with your tranquilizer pistol should see you through this section. If you want to the location of Dr. Emmerich to display as a waypoint, interrogate one of the guards outside the camp before you sneak in. This should do the trick. If you don’t want to bother, you can find Dr. Emmerich in the large building on the north side of the camp. Your path along the left side of the base should take you straight there.

You’ll reach the large building where Dr. Emmerich is being held along the west wall, but the entrance to get inside is on the east wall. You can sneak over the top and get inside without much trouble, and this will trigger a cut scene. If you want to help your time bonus, you can skip it. If you are playing for the first time and just want to enjoy it, let it play.

When the cut scene is over you will have to grab Dr. Emmerich and sneak back out of the base. You can take the Metal Gear, but it’s not really necessary. It won’t hurt you, as even when the enemy is alerted to your presence and you blast them with the mini gun, the rest of the camp somehow remains oblivious. Choose whatever path you wish, but get the good doctor to the main gate where you initially infiltrated the base.

As you exit the base you’ll trigger another cut scene, and when it’s done you’ll have to deal with the Sahelanthropus. It’s basically a 100 foot tall robot that wants to kill you, but luckily, there is a nearby truck that you can use. Quickly throw Dr. Emmerich in the passenger seat, and then jump into the driver’s seat. Drive between the giant robot’s legs, and then bring up your iDROID and call for an extraction at the location one further down from the default. As the helicopter moves to the new position, drive away from the robot as quickly as you can and to the new landing zone.

Get Dr. Emmerich out of the truck when you are close to the landing zone, being sure not to park under where the chopper intends to land. This will result in a delay that will not end well. When you are on the chopper, take control of the mini gun and start wasting the little pods that the robot deploys. When they are all down, shoot the robot itself to complete the mission. If you’ve finished in about 15 minutes, that should be your S Rank.
