Best Sims 4 Mods

Having been out for almost four years now, The Sims 4 has a ton of awesome mods that you can use to change certain aspects of the game. With so many to choose from, it can be a little tricky knowing which ones are worth your time. We figured we’d gather together some must-have mods for The Sims 4. First though, for the uninitiated, let’s discuss how to download and use Sims 4 Mods.

How to Use Mods in Sims 4

The Sims is often a lot a lot of gamers’ first experience with modding. It can be a little daunting at first, but there are some easy ways to get set up. As with anything involving installing third-party files on your PC, only do so from trusted sources. We recommend modthesims.com, as mods are curated and checked regularly by the community. Here’s how to download and use mods in The Sims 4:

  • Head into your system files and find the “Electronic Arts” folder
  • Inside this folder you’ll see a folder labelled “Mods”
  • This is where you will be dropping the Mod files you download
  • You can download files from a mod site, like modthesims.info
  • You’ll receive a Zip file, which should be placed, in its extracted form, into the “Mods” folder
  • Now start the game
  • You will be met with a Mods startup screen, where you can activate all of the mods you have downloaded

There are some key things to bear in mind when modding your game, which we've listed below:

  • The most common kinds of mods you'll come across are script mods, they are mods that add scripts to the game, and are added by dumping their zip and package files into your mod folder.
  • Be aware that mods often conflict with each other. When downloading one, look for any info on the source site that indicates other mods that it will not work with. Mods can seriously break your game, so a good tactic is to make a note of every mod you download, makes it easier to workout why things have gone wrong.
  • Keep an eye out for new patch versions of your favorite mods, you can then update them.
  • Always, ALWAYS, backup your saves before installing a new mod.

Sims 4 Best Mods - Emotional Inertia by roBurky

The Sims 4 added a lot of depth to how motions work in the game. Problem is, they’re a little too predictable. The Emotional Inertia mod by roBurky adds a little balance to things, and makes your Sims a little more consistent in terms of mood. The end result is that emotions feel more meaningful in the game, given that it will now take considerable effort to alter the mood of a Sim after its mind has been changed.

Best Sims 4 Mods - Ultrasound Scan by LittleMsSam

One of the coolest thing you can do in Sims 4, and something that everyone always ends up doing anyway, is having babies. The whole thing is kinda unceremonious in the base game, with kids basically just showing up after a while. The Ultrasound mod by LittleMsSam adds in a nice little touch of realism to proceedings, by adding framed ultrasound pictures that you can put up in your Sim’s home. It’s a very small detail, but one that adds a lot of depth nonetheless.

Best Sims 4 Mods - Skeeball and Photobooth

This mod by fire2icewitch adds awesome photobooths and skeeball machines into the game, perfect for any arcades or rec rooms you're planning on building.

It’s all cartoon-violence but is definitely not for the faint hearted. It’s also changed as the game has been updated, and even now includes dogs and cats attacking Sims.

Best Sims 4 Mods - Balanced Death Moodlets

This mod by Flerb fixes several annoying inconsistencies with the way death works in the base game. We’re finishing off this list with a very small, but very welcomed mod by GODJUL1. It adds in a Height Slider, which rather bafflingly is absent from the base game. Best Sims 4 Mods - No More Culling by Neia

Culling is a process that the game goes through every now and then, in which it removes Sims that you haven't interacted with for a while. This can obviously be annoying for players who play the game a lot, as some great characters can be removed without warning. The No More Culling mod by Neia stops this from happening, meaning that your Sims can sleep safe in the knowledge that they won't be unceremoniously removed in the middle of the night .

Best Sims 4 Mods - Glowing Android LEDs

Inspired by Detroit: Become Human, this mod by LadySpira adds android LEDs to the temples of your sims. It gives them a robotic look, making it possible for you to roleplay new sci-fi inspired scenarios. They're available in blue, red and yellow and there are four versions for four different head shapes.

As a The Sims player i think this article isn't very helpful. I mean it's not horrible, it surely has some mods that I use and know that they are helpful and work, but the rest is pretty bad.
1 - There's no info about lots and script files. And yes, scripts are added to the game the same way as the rest, but builds are not and if someone saw this article, they'd think, that you just have to put these files into the folder and it should works. But it won't
    2 - This top 10 has 19 items and isn't even a top list
3 - Lots are not mods. Neither is custom content, but there is none of it in this list. Lots are files just like save files, they contain information, but there's no way in which they modify the game
4 - Extreme Violence Mod was created by Sacrificial, Sims 4 Studio is the name of a modding tool and its forum. Another mod by Sacrificial doesn't have any link to it
5 - Height Slider mod is outdated and there's a better one by Luumia
6 - And the worst one, that shows how bad the situation is: 20 new Sliders and Sprots and Rec Center are for The Sims 2. How this was overlooked ??? And while the lot isn't that much of a problem, cuz it just won't work, the sliders are a horrible mistake. The game will try to read them, but it woudn't be possible, so the computer slows down and overall game performance is worse, even though nothing is added to the game

As a long-time Sims player (since '01/'02), I have to agree with a few of yaki26's points.

Mainly, and for the benefit of newer players or people new to modding and cc, it would be a good idea to include at least a *little* information about script files, and/or about how often times mods can conflict with one another, so ALWAYS keep track of what you download, when you got it, and where it came from (I personally keep a simple Notepad list of each mod name, site address, date downloaded, and patch version. Boring but very handy when a problem arises). Also, ALWAYS check back to that mod's page when a new patch is released to see if the mod needs to be updated, and ALWAYS backup your save files BEFORE making any major game changes.

The reason for the extra caution is because mods can be fun and interesting and take your game from 'yawn' to unhealthy carnal obsession in seconds, but they can also break your game and ruin your saves (costing you dozens or even hundreds of hours of work). It happens to most of us at some point, but if you're a beginner, the landscape of mods is SO VAST and daunting, and there are some excellent in-depth tutorials out there to get you started, but it's helpful for even a quick run-down list like this one to detail those few warnings, like reading a mod's description THOROUGHLY to avoid conflicts and keeping them up to date with patches.Edited last month by chloedaniels99

There's no info about lots and script files. And yes, scripts are added to the game the same way as the rest, but builds are not and if someone saw this article. I have recently used adobe photoshop cs6 download portable for designing the logo for Sims game wallpaper on my twitter wall. However you can use the Corel draw portable x8 latest version for free.
