Outlast 2 : Reaching the Watermill, Finding the Crank
Outlast 2 drops protagonist Blake Langermann on the outskirts of the Sonoran Desert, and tasks him with rescuing his wife, Lynn, from a town of murderous lunatics. We've got all you need to get through the game in this Outlast 2 Walkthrough.
Having just eluded his pursuers at the top of the water tower, Blake Langermann now finds himself with a moment to finally breathe, even if it's merely a moment. In this Outlast 2 Walkthrough we'll help you reach the Watermill.
How to Find the Crank
At the very beginning of this section of Outlast 2, while Blake is still atop the water tower, there's a battery right next to him on a table. Hop over the edge of the water tower to land in a corn field, but head forwards a short ways to come to a gap in a fence that you can slip through. Head straight through the door ahead of you into the house, where there's a woman who (thankfully) won't attack Blake, as well as a bandage and the 'Knoth's Gospel, Chapter 2' document in the next room.
Jump out of the window of the room that contained the document to find yourself in another corn field. Turn to the left and head to the fence directly in front of you, following it all the way round till you come out to a clearing with a large building with a water wheel in front of you. Head through to the door to the left of the water wheel, and continue through into the room with several cranks turning, turning immediately left and going through the double doors to the next room.
Firstly pick up the bandages immediately on the left after going through the door, then the battery on the chair at the back of the room, and afterwards pick up the crank on the table. As soon as you've picked up the crank, run back out into the main room and turn left, going through the door and running diagonally left to the stairs. Run up the stairs and install the crank at the top, afterwards running straight back down and hiding in one of the barrels to the left of the door that led into the yard.
Wait until the enemy with the torch has passed you by, and head back through the door, crawling through the space underneath the large crank that was previously turning. Once you start crawling, two enemies will begin pursuing you, so as soon as Blake is standing up again run through the doorway ahead of you and turn left, eventually sliding down the hill, eluding your pursuers.

Escape the Watermill
Turn roughly 45 degrees left and head towards the light in the distance, as you'll find a battery underneath the shelter there on a chair. From here, turn around and head out of the shelter, heading diagonally left and round the wall there, until you come to a clearing. Once you've reached the clearing head left, and Marta will reappear with a suitable visual cue. Turn back around and sprint, running around the building to the left of you and continuing on ahead until you come to a blood stain on the ground leading through a pair of barn doors.
Head through the barn doors, and you will have escaped from Marta, for now. For the next section of Outlast 2, head over to our guide on how to find the hook for the puzzle in the barn.
