Monster Hunter World Iceborne: How to Unlock the Frozen Speartuna Great Sword

Here's how to unlock the Frozen Speartuna great sword in the Monster Hunter World Iceborne expansion.

Monster Hunter World Iceborne is out right now, and it brings one particularly whacky weapon with it. In this guide, we'll be walking you through how to get hold of the Monster Hunter World Frozen Speartuna great sword, so you can get hold of one of the flashier weapons in the game.

How to Get the Frozen Speartuna Weapon

Unlocking the Frozen Speartuna great sword in the Monster Hunter World Iceborne expansion isn't actually that difficult. We'll give you the brief few steps for the quest to unlock the weapon in the list below, before delving into greater detail further down.

  • Undertake the Trophy Fishin' event quest.
  • Slay two Beotodus'.
  • Go to the Smithy with your new Tickets.
  • Craft the Frozen Speartuna from the Great Sword menu.

Frozen Speartuna Quest

As we mentioned above, the only way to go about unlocking the Frozen Speartuna great sword in Monster Hunter World is by going to the 'Events' section in the quest menu. Here, you'll find a quest called 'Trophy Fishin',' which you can only undertake if you've attained Master Rank one.

Within the quest itself, you need to either capture or slay two Beotodus'. Although the Beotodus is the introductory monster for the Iceborne expansion, it's by no means a particularly easy monster to take on. Send up an SOS Flare as soon as you load into the quest to make things a whole lot easier for you.

Additionally, you'll want to take some ice-based armor with you for the fight with the Beotodus. Assuming you've already bested the Beotodus, wearing the creature's very own armor set to face off against it for this quest is actually quite a good idea. For weapons, bring along a fire-based weapon with you when fighting the Beotodus, for example the Firedance Rathmaul Insect Glaive works a treat.

Once you've defeated or captured the two Beotodus' (you don't have to fight them at once, just one after the other), you'll want to go to the Smithy, in either Astera or Seliana. You'll need the following items to craft the Frozen Speartuna great sword:

  • 1x Freezer Ticket.
  • 3x Monster Toughbone.
  • 3x Cryo Sack.
  • 2x Gracium.
