Pokemon Go Rayquaza Raid - Counters, Shiny, Special Raid

There’s a brand new special raid to take on in Pokemon Go. Here’s everything you need to know about Rayquaza.

Every now and then, Niantic drops a new special raid event into Pokemon Go. It gives players the chance to take on a powerful pokemon, often for the first time in a while. Currently, Rayquaza is being offered up as a foe, with trainers able to battle and catch it during a limited time period. To help make sure you’re up to the task, we’ve put together this Pokemon Go Rayquaza Raid Guide. It will list all of the key info you need to know on Rayquaza, from what the best counters are, to a look at its moveset. We’ll also be outlining the schedule of the new raid event, so that you can start preparing.

Pokemon Go Rayquaza

Rayquaza is, of course, the legendary dragon pokemon first introduced in Pokemon Emerald back in gen 3. It is a pretty powerful pokemon, specializing in flying type moves, and an impressive defense. Let’s take a look at how all of this translates into Pokemon Go.

Pokemon Go Rayquaza Counters

When facing a raid boss in Pokemon Go, you’ll want to take a look at what the best counters are. This means the best pokemon to take into battle, usually based on a type advantage to counter the boss’ weaknesses. As such, there are a few pokemon that, ideally, you should be bringing along with you for the Rayquaza Raid. We’ve listed the best Pokemon Go Rayquaza Counters below:

  • Mamoswine - Ice type is going to be your go-to here, making Mamoswine the best choice.
  • Mewtwo - You can have Mewtwo with Ice Beam as its Charge attack. Very powerful against Rayquaza.
  • Jynx - Again, Ice is the way to go here, although Jynx is definitely to be used as a glass cannon only.

Pokemon Go Rayquaza Raid

As we mentioned earlier in this article, Rayquaza has returned as a raid boss in Pokemon Go. It won’t be around forever though, as this is a special event for players to take advantage of. The schedule is as detailed below:

  • Friday, Mar. 15, 2019, at 1 p.m. PDT (GMT −7) to Monday, Mar. 18, 2019, at 1 p.m. PDT (GMT −7)

Pokemon Go Shiny Rayquaza

Usually, a new Pokemon Go Raid means an opportunity to nab a shiny version of a rare pokemon. Unfortunately, there will not be any Shiny Rayquaza during the upcoming event, as confirmed via the TSR over on Reddit.
