Super Smash Bros Ultimate Tips

To help you get settled into Super Smash Bros Ultimate, we’ve collected some helpful tips. They range from advice on choosing your character, to strategies you can use while playing.

  • Use the training screen to learn a character’s moveset before jumping into a battle.
  • Feel free to start on the easiest difficulty, then incrementally increase it as you play.
  • Spirits Mode is a great way to learn new characters, as you can swap them out as you unlock them.
  • Up Smash and Down Smash moves are easy to learn, and are very useful. Focus on practising these first.
  • Use your block.
  • You can dodge in the air by hitting the grab button.
  • Head for items, they are very powerful.
  • Early on, concentrate on learning how to move around stages.
  • Meteor Smash is a technique where you knock a player downwards. It’s an easy KO if you do it right.
  • Pick up any food you see to lower your percentage.
  • You can grab items while airborne.
  • Press jump and attack at the same time to perform a short-hop attack.

Super Smash Bros Ultimate Best Starter Fighters - Which Fighter Should Beginners Use?

Some fighters are harder to use than others in Super Smash Bros Ultimate. There are some though that are perfect for those picking up the game for the first time. We’ve listed the best beginner’s fighters in Super Smash Bros Ultimate below.

  • Link - players can rely on Link’s ranged attacks to easily chip at the enemy from afar. He’s also light and nimble, meaning you’ll be able to get out of a pinch if needed.
  • Mario - Mario is a great starter choice because he handles exactly how you’d expect. His fireballs are easy to execute, and his Up Smash is really easy to master.
  • Kirby - if you find yourself falling off of the stages in Super Smash Bros Ultimate, try Kirby. They have five jumps which can be used to get out of a jam, and the hammer swing is particularly powerful.
  • Marth - sword fighters are generally pretty friendly in Super Smash Bros Ultimate. Their attacks are simple but still flashy, and the high mobility makes it easy to traverse platforms and escape danger.

How to Get Better at Super Smash Bros Ultimate

So you've been playing Super Smash Bros Ultimate for a while now, and want to get better so you can show up your friends. Well, you're in luck, because we've included some tips on getting better below:

  • Play online - the absolute best way to improve in Super Smash Bros Ultimate is to play as many real, human players as possible.
  • Watch the pros - watch some pro tournament games with players tht use the same main as you. You'll learn some basic combos and strategies.
  • Training Mode - Training Mode is the perfect place to practice your combos.
  • Meteor Smash - one of the best ways to KO opponents in Super Smash Bros Ultimate is to use a Meteor Smash move. This is a move that sends opponents directly downwards, and can be used at the edges of the stage to knock them straight into a KO.
  • Learn to Parry - timing your shield at the right time will lead to a parry, and a short window where you can attack.
  • Experiment with all of the fighters - We know how easy it is to get attached to a particular fighter in Super Smash Bros Ultimate, but you should at least try all of them. A good excuse to do this is via Classic Mode.
