The Division 2 Tips - Which Skills to Unlock First, Division 2 Controls

The Division 2 is finally here. Here’s everything you’ll need to become a top-class agent.

There's a big focus on endgame content in The Division 2, and there's definitely a fair bit to take in from the outset. In our Division 2 guide, we'll be taking you through absolutely everything you need to know when you're going into the game for the first time, as well as providing you with all The Division 2 controls that you'll need to know.

The Division 2 Guide

You’ll likely find the opening hours of The Division 2 fairly tricky, especially if you’ve opted to go alone. There’s a lot of helpful techniques and skills that are easy to miss early on, so be sure to check out the guides below to study up on anything that you’re struggling with.

The Division 2 Tips

When starting out in The Division 2, you’ll be given free rein of a huge sprawling city. You should be careful, however, as many areas are gated by level, and will have some pretty punishing enemy encounters. Even some of the low level areas will require some careful tactics, so it’s well worth going in with some helpful tips. We’ve played a fair bit of The Division 2, and have learned a thing or two in that time. We’ve listed some of the essential The Division 2 tips that we’ve come up with below:

  • Use your skills as soon as they are ready, there’s no point wasting time on the recharge periods.
  • Loot everything, it seems that even fairly inconspicuous loot sources can yield great items
  • Once you unlock new SHD caches on the map, go and collect them. They’ll allow you to unlock perks which can really tip the odds in your favor.
  • Have a shotgun handy, you’ll be constantly charged by enemies.
  • Think and set up traps before you engage.
  • Keep your distance from enemies, it’s incredibly easy to get overwhelmed.
  • Look around for gates with yellow locks on them, they can be shot off, revealing loot.
  • Head back to HQ regularly to visit the Quartermaster and spend any skill points you might have.
  • Double tap X/A to roll.
  • Remember to use any weapon mods that you pick up.
  • The Projects are well worth doing, as they will reward you with blueprints.
  • Some enemies have red packs on them, shoot them to release gas and stagger them.
  • It’s best to aim at a specific body point when facing armored enemies. You’ll only do real damage on exposed areas.
  • Check your Ubisoft account for any bonus guns that you may already own.
  • Scrap your gear, don’t sell it. This is because you’ll rarely need money to purchase better weapons, you’ll find these naturally.
  • Not every fight is worth fighting. If you are on your way to somewhere else, don’t be afraid to sneak past enemies.
  • The enemy scanning skill is pretty useless, you’ll almost always see enemies coming.
  • Investigate question marks that pop up on your map.

Which Skills Should You Get First in The Division 2?

Early on in The Division 2, you’ll be given skill points to spend. There’s a lot of choice, so it’s natural to feel a little overwhelmed. We’ve listed the best The Division 2 skills to get early on in the game below:

  • Seeker Mine (Cluster) - the cluster bomb is an absolute beast early on. It will not only seek out and blow up multiple enemies at once, but it will also highlight them. In indoor environments, it’s even deadlier, able to trigger gas canisters and barrels easily.
  • Turret (Sniper) - once you have an explosive of sorts, you’ll want something to deal a lot of damage to single targets. The sniper turret must be triggered and fired manually, but will make short work of armor and boss enemies.
  • Shield - the shield is great to have as an insurance option. You’ll frequently find yourself overwhelmed by enemies, and triggering the shield can give you time to heal and reposition.

The Division 2 Controls

The Division 2 has a fairly straightforward control scheme, but there are some oddities and quirks that may make it hard for you to trigger certain actions. To keep things crystal clear, you’ll find The Division 2 controls below:

  • Shoot - R2/RT
  • Aim Weapon - L2/LT
  • Cover - X/A
  • Reload/Interact - Square/ X
  • Switch weapon - Triangle/Y
  • Vault - Circle/ B
  • Skill 1 - R1/RB
  • Skill 2 - L1/LB
  • Map - Pause/touchpad
  • Move - left stick
  • Sprint - left stick (click)
  • Aim - Right stick
  • Melee - Right Stick (click)
  • Roll - double tap X/A
  • Restore armor - hold right d-pad
  • Ready grenade - press left d-pad
