Bloodborne Shadow of Yharnam Boss Guide

Found at the very end of the Forbidden Woods area, the Shadow of Yharnam actually appears in three forms. It's definitely one of the more ambiguous boss characters of Bloodborne, but it's also one of the more deadly, especially when considering that it can summon gigantic snakes into the fight later on.

How to Defeat the Shadow of Yharnam in Bloodborne

The boss battle against the Shadow of Yharnam features three dark clerics. One uses magic by shooting fireball projectiles at you. Most of the time it will be three projectiles fired in a cone shape in front of the boss, but during certain occasions it will be a single fireball that shoots straight ahead. The second has a sword and uses fairly basic sword attacks, while the third has a sword and a candle and can use flame-based attacks as well as normal sword attacks.

As long as you keep moving it's relatively easy to avoid the attacks of all three clerics. It's recommended to either not lock-on at all, or stay locked on to the magic user so you can see the projectile attacks coming. Even if you can't see the other two bosses very well, if you continuously move and dodge when you see a boss get close or a projectile attack coming your way, you will avoid almost everything.

The trick to this battle is that when one boss dies, the other two power up. For example, the sword boss gains extended reach with a snake arm when one boss dies, then gains the ability to summon giant snakes for a single attack when the two bosses are down. Ideally you should get all three bosses down to virtually no health, then kill them one after another in rapid succession.

If you have issues keeping all three alive until you're ready to deliver the final blows, kill the magic user first, then the one holding the candle, then the one with just the sword. It's much easier to dodge the sword-user's attacks when he's fully powered up. The only caveat is to not let him linger too long at full power. He'll go from summoning one giant snake to summoning two giant snakes, and it continually gets harder to dodge.

Whatever order you decide to kill the bosses, the key is to stay on the move and try to remain close enough to attack at least one of them whenever you have stamina available. You want at least half your stamina bar ready to go so you can hit the enemies several times before you have to disengage. Faster weapons tend to work better because most weapons will interrupt the cleric's attacks, but slower weapons can't swing fast enough to connect before you get hit. It's still possible to win with slower weapons, but it's more of a challenge with three enemies attacking you at once.

Defeat all three bosses to obtain the Blood Rapture rune. When equipped, the rune causes critical strikes (visceral attacks) to restore 200 HP. Activate the Forbidden Grave lamp in the middle of the room and head through the doorway and down the path.

Watch the right side of the path. When you see the brick wall a Tree Mutant attacks after the next tree on the right. It doesn't have a ton of health and most attacks stun it, so you should haven't too much trouble with the enemy.

Continue down the path and collect the Madman's Knowledge from the corpse on the left. Activate the Byrgenwerth lamp ahead as you enter the Byrgenwerth area.

Essential Tips for Defeating the Shadow of Yharnam
