Vermintide 2 Character Classes

There are a total of five character classes in Warhammer: Vermintide 2, each of which have unique weapons and abilities that you won't find anywhere else in the game. Each character class also specializes in one particular area of combat, for example the Waystalker deals out hefty ranged damage with her bow and Abilities, while the Battle Wizard is an excellent choice for thinning out the horde of Skaven with magical attacks.

Vermintide 2 Mercenary Class

The Mercenary class is the one you’ll start out as in Vermintide 2, escaping from the Skaven fortress in the role of Markus Kruber. This class is basically you’re all-round fighter of the game, able to wield strong two-handed axes in the melee slot, as well as quick firing hand cannons in the ranged slot.

For a complete breakdown of everything you need to know about the Mercenary class, as well as both the unlockable classes at level 7 and 12 for Kruber, head over to our Mercenary guide.

Vermintide 2 Ranger Veteran Class

The Ranger Veteran character comes in the form of Bardin Goreksson, a dwarf that carries both ranged weapons and hard hitting axes on him at all times. He’s a great character no matter the situation you’re in, although you will find your point of view slightly lower down than other characters.

For a complete breakdown on everything you need to know about the Ranger Veteran class, including the best weapons that you should be taking into any mission with Bardin, head over to our Ranger Veteran guide.

Vermintide 2 Waystalker Class

The Waystalker class is played by Kerillian, the enigmatic Scottish Elf. Although the character does specialise in ranged combat with powerful bows, she can get up close and personal with a mix of double daggers, short swords, and long swords.

The Waystalker class might be a lot to handle at first, but head over to our complete Waystalker guide if you need a hand on understanding all the bonus classes you can unlock for Kerillian.

Vermintide 2 Witch Hunter Captain Class

The Witch Hunter Captain role in Vermintide 2 is played by Victor Saltzpyre, a crazy character with a slight persecution complex. The character can bring plenty of powerful ranged weapons to bear against the horde of Skaven, including pistols, hand cannons, and rifles among others.

The Witch Hunter Captain is definitely one of the more crazed characters in the game of Vermintide 2. For a complete breakdown of the character, head over to our Witch Hunter Captain guide.

Vermintide 2 Battle Wizard Class

Finally, the Battle Wizard is played by Sienna in Vermintide 2, able to rain down death across the battlefield with powerful fiery spells. She’s a lot to get to grips with at first, but she’ll definitely become a fan favorite after a while.

The Battle Wizard is easily one of the more destructive, experimental characters of Vermintide 2. For everything you need to know in order to maximise damage output as Sienna, head over to our Battle Wizard guide.

All of the above characters have their own individual level, which is increased every time you use the character for a story or online mission of Vermintide 2. All five character classes start at level 1, and you gain XP for them based on how many kills and additional quest-related actions you perform in each mission. You'll unlock new abilities for all five characters whenever you reach level 7 and level 12 with each of them, as we've completely detailed in the guide pages listed above.

There's also the additional Heroic Power level for all five character classes in Vermintide 2, which effectively governs whether you can entire higher difficulty quests and missions. For all you need to know about increasing this special level for all five characters, head over to our Vermintide 2 Heroic Power Level guide.
