The Witcher 3 Switch Release Date, Control Changes, Trailer - Everything We Know

Here's our guide to The Witcher 3 Switch port, including a release date, price, port tech details, and more.

We now know that The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt is coming to the Nintendo Switch later this year, and CD Projekt RED has talked about the port in more specific details. In this guide to the port, we'll be going over the Witcher 3 Switch release date, all the tech details for the port, the suspected price at launch, and more.

Witcher 3 Switch Release Date

The Witcher 3 Switch port release date is at an unknown point in 2019. Nintendo announced the date in their own Nintendo E3 2019 Direct, which took place on June 11, 2019.

Just recently, UI director Alvin Lui of The Witcher 3 told Video Games Chronicle that they're "really happy" with the work that Saber Interactive is doing on the port. "It's still at a quality that we're proud of," Liu said. "But we also understand that there were hardware trade-offs that we had to do, in terms of performance versus graphics."

Witcher 3 Switch Trailer

We saw some brief gameplay of Witcher 3 on Switch in the Nintendo Direct on June 11. It turns out you'll actually get all the DLC bundled in with the game when you purchase it, in the 'Complete Edition.' This means that you're going to be able to access the Hearts of Stone, and Blood and Wine DLC expansions for the game on Switch, the latter of which is a game in itself, if we're honest.

In addition to this, the Witcher Twitter account revealed that all available content will be packaged into a single Nintendo Switch cartridge. Since the entire package is about 32GB, this makes The Witcher 3 on Switch the first game in the west to use the bigger game cartridge size for a retail release.

Witcher 3 Switch Graphics

If you're wondering about the graphical aspect of The Witcher 3 on the Nintendo Switch, then wonder no more. CD Projekt revealed in the tweet below that the game will run at 540p in handheld mode, when you're playing the game on the go. This will scale up to 720p when you're playing the game in docked mode.

Witcher 3 Switch Cross-Save

With the Witcher 3 Switch port, cross-save unfortunately isn't an option. The Witcher Twitter account revealed as much in the post below, so if you're playing The Witcher 3 on Switch, you'll be starting Geralt's journey over from the beginning.

Witcher 3 Switch Price

Right now, we don't have a concrete price for the Witcher 3 on Switch. However considering that you're getting all the DLC bundled in to the game in one purchase, all signs point towards this being a full price, $60 retail purchase.

Sometimes we include links to online retail stores. If you click on one and make a purchase we may receive a small commission. See our terms & conditions.
