Super Smash Bros Ultimate Release Date

Nintendo announced Super Smash Bros Switch at the end of the March Nintendo Direct, broadcast on March 8, 2018. At E3 on June 12, 2018 Nintendo revealed that the Super Smash Bros. Ultimate release date is December 7, 2018.

The Super Smash Bros Switch release date of December 7 gives it some real breathing room from the jam-packed November line-up of games. It's a good move from Nintendo, though few games can compete with a game as big as Smash Bro.s Ultimate

Super Smash Bros Switch Character Roster - All Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Characters

In a break from traditional Super Smash Bros reveal fashion, the Smash Bros. Ultimate character roster was revealed in its entirety at E3 2018. We've detailed all the characters in Super Smash Bros Switch just below and updated the line-up based on what was revealed at E3 2018:

After months of squinting at the short Super Smash Bros. Switch Teaser trailer, we can now confirm exactly who will feature in the game, and it's not what you'd expect. During Nintendo's E3 2018 Direct event, it was revealed that Super Smash Bros. Ultimate will feature every character in Smash history. This means Snake, Bayonetta, Mega-Man, Pac-Man and more. We've listed every Smash Bros Ultimate character in our Super Smash Bros Ultimate Characters Guide. Head there to see the full roster, details on each character, what new characters are coming to the game, and more.

Super Smash Bros Ultimate Isabelle Animal Crossing

It was recently revealed that an Animal Crossing character would be coming to Super Smash Bros Ultimate on Nintendo Switch. Isabelle will join the fight, and looks to be a pretty capable fighter, if the trailer below is anything to go by.

Ridley is in Super Smash Bros Ultimate

We also got our first brand-new character in the form of Ridley from the Metroid series. Ridley has been wanted by fans for quite some time, but the Metroid boss had been thought to be too large in size to work in the game.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Catlevania Content

During the most recent Nintendo Direct, it was revealed that Castlevania would be coming to Super Smash Bros. Ultimate in a big way. Simon Belmont is a new fighter in the game, and Richter is also tagging along as an Echo Fighter.

King K.Rule is Coming to Super Smash Bros. Ultimate

In a truly baffling state of affairs, King K.Rule, the bad alligator from Donkey Kong Country, is coming to the game. The reveal was handled in a super bizarre fashion, with a King Dedede fake out and plenty of Kong-based humor.

What is Super Smash Bros.?

If you're wondering why Nintendo fans are so excited about Super Smash Bros. coming to Switch and don't know what the game is about, here's a tiny little primer. Super Smash Bros. is a four-player fighting game built around Nintendo characters and games - although has branched out to include guest characters from non-Nintendo franchises. As well as featuring a whole host of famous characters, the stages are based on iconic environments from Nintendo games. While simple on the face of it, Smash Bros. has a lot of depth to the combat and has built a sizable competitive scene. Smash Bros. is a big deal for fans and Nintendo, with the game likely to end up one of the top selling games on the Switch during its lifetime.

Is Super Smash Bros Ultimate Based on the Wii U and 3DS Games?

One of the questions frequently asked by Super Smash Bros fans about the Switch game was whether or not it would be a completely new game or based on the Wii U/3DS editions. When Smash Switch releases it will have been approximately four years since the Wii U/3DS game launched, which is evidently more than enough time to create a new entry in the series. It was confirmed during E3 2018 that Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is a whole new game in the series.

Smash Bros Ultimate GameCube Controller Compatible

During E3 2018, we received a ton of new details about the newly named Smash Bros. Ultimate. One of the most requested features that comes with every new entry in the series is that of GameCube Controller functionality. Luckily it was confirmed that you can play Super Smash Bros. Ultimate with a GameCube Controller. There will be a deluxe edition of the game which will come packaged with the new GameCube Controller.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Story Mode

One part of Super Smash Bros Switch fans are eager to find out about is the Story Mode: whether there will be one and if so, what it's like. Melee had Adventure Mode, and Brawl had Subspace Emissary, with the latter widely thought of as one of the best modes ever seen in a Smash Bros. game.

Given that Smash Bros. Ultimate is one of the most important titles for the system, not only this year but in its lifetime, there's a lot of pressure on Nintendo to deliver the goods. If Super Smash Bros. Switch doesn't include a story mode, fans will likely not be happy at all. We still don't have any confirmation of a story mode in Smash Bros Ultimate, so we will have to wait until closer to launch.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Amiibo Functionailty - Ridley amiibo, Wolf amiibo, Inkling amiibo

Nintendo has confirmed that Super Smash Bros. Ultimate will have Amiibo Functionality. All Smash Bros. amiibo will work in the game. In addition, all versions of any character in the game will also work. Players can tap the amiibo to level up

Nintendo has revealed the Ridley amiibo, the Wolf amiibo, and the Inkling amiibo. You can check them out below:

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate New Assist Trophies

It's clear that Nintendo is going all in on Assist Trophies in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. A few more were just announced, many featuring characters that have been long-requested by fans. Here are some new Assist Trophies set to feature in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.

  • Zero from Mega Man X
  • Alucard from Castlevania: Symphony of the Night
  • Knuckles from Sonic the Hedgehog
  • The Moon from The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask
  • Rathalos from Monster Hunter

Super Smash Bros Ultimate Music

The latest Nintendo Direct Presentation went all in on the music of Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. There are over 800 tracks to chose from, and the music can be played and listened to even while the Nintendo Switch system is locked.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate New Pokemon

A load of new pokemon are being added into Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. They can be summoned in to wreck the collective day of your oponents, and include the newly introduced Alola Forms. Here's a list of the new pokemon in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.

  • Alolan Exeggutor
  • Vulpix
  • Alolan Vulpix
  • Abra
  • Mimikyu
  • Solgaleo

  • Ditto

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate New Items - Banana, Death's Scythe

During the most recent reveal presentation, it was confirmed that there will be new items available in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. There's a banana that doubles as a gun, a bomb that you have to hold up for a certain amount of time for it to detonate, and also Death's own scythe.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Modes

We now have a pretty good idea as to what modes will be included in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. We've included them in the following list:

  • Classic Mode - A single-player mode in which players defeat a procession of fighters.
  • Smashdown Mode - An elimination moe of sorts in which players cannot use the same fighter in two conscecutive games. It encorages players to use fighters they wouldn't ordinarily pick.
  • Training Mode - An Improved Training Mode will be available, with distinct markers to aid in mapping out move trajectory and advanced fighting skills.
  • Tournament Mode - Your classic tournament mode, with a dizzying level of customization available to the player.

With what we've got so far, it's getting easier to say what Smash on Switch will be. We've now received the complete character roster, though we don't know all of the stages that will appear yet, and there's no word on every game mode that will be in the game though, though 8-player battles have been confirmed for the game. We'll likely hear more in the lead up to launch.

What the hell is up with this clickbait title? F you, F you as a "game journalist," F you as a human being. I created this account to have the one comment here be to insult you directly. I want the fraction of a penny you get from the traffic here sent back to me, and a public apology. Don't be an ass, learn how to make an article that entices readers with content. I'm never coming back to this site again ever, and advising every human being I know not to. It's crap like this that makes me sick to my stomach. I could do your Job twice as good, but I choose not to, because the video game journalist industry is toxic. Do you enjoy Super Smash bros? Do you play it with friends? Have you picked up a controller in the last 5 years? Are you even a human being or just a AI pasting this article from another source? You are the worst, go get a real job.

@Turrlz27 Anytime there isn't an official release date but a year is specified it is by default placed as December 31st. You see this with Kingdom Hearts 3 and other games like Code Vein because they're confirmed for this year but haven't been given an official release date within the year. December 31st is just a placeholder.
