Destiny 2 Lost Cryptarch Guide - How to Get the Thunderlord Exotic Weapon

Here's everything you need to know about the Festival of the Lost in Destiny 2, including the new horde mode, new weapons, and the end date.

The Festival of the Lost might have now ended for all Destiny 2 players, but that doesn't mean The Lost Cryptarch quest line has drawn to a close. In this Destiny 2 Lost Cryptarch guide, we'll be detailing how you can quickly and easily complete every step in the quest line, so you can get your hands on the elusive Thunderlord Exotic, a powerful returning weapon from the original game.

If you instead need any additional information on the ongoing event in Bungie’s FPS, you’ll want to check out our Destiny 2 Festival of the Lost guide. Here you can find the end date for the event, as well as other details, like how to get the new Horror Story weapon.

Destiny 2 Lost Cryptarch Quest Guide

To begin The Lost Cryptarch quest, you’ll firstly want to head over to Amanda Holliday in The Tower. Amanda has been the main vendor for the Festival of the Lost, so it’s no surprise that she’s handing out new quests for the event.

Once you’ve spoken to Amanda, she’ll provide you with the Journal of the Reef Cryptarch. Examine the item in the Pursuits section of your inventory, and you’ll find that it has pages missing, which need to be gradually filled in.

To complete the first out of ten steps, you need to head to the European Dead Zone. Your objective here is to kill as many elite Fallen enemies as possible, so you’ll want to join up to any Public Events that are ongoing, and attempt to turn them into their Heroic versions. The Glimmer Mining Public Event is perfect for summoning elite Fallen enemies.

All in all, you need to acquire ten pages in total from elite Fallen enemies (the ones with the orange health bars). Once you’ve obtained ten pages in total, head back to Amanda Holliday, who will now take some time to properly decrypt the items that you’ve given here.

On November 6, the next step of the Lost Cryptarch quest unlocked. Now, when you log into your Destiny 2 character, you'll find that the Journal of the Reef Cryptarch item itself has an updated description in your inventory.

You need to visit the European Dead Zone, and find and loot three Lost Sectors. The first, the Atrium, is located right within the church of Devrim Kay in the Trostlands, and can be found through a hole in the floor.

Next, for the Terminus East Lost Sector, head to the northeastern corner of the Trostlands area. You're looking for a metal shutter slightly open at the bottom, which you can slip under.

Finally, there's the Widow's Walk Lost Sector. Just to the west of the church, on the opposite side of the street, you'll see the Lost Sector sign on a wall.

But you're not quite done yet. Once you've looted all three Lost Sectors by killing the bosses at the end and looting the chests, you'll need to travel to the Whispered Falls Lost Sector.

Head to the Outskirts area of the European Dead Zone, and to the forest area in the northwest. You need to be in the very northwestern corner of the area, and you can find the entrance to the Whispered Cove under a rock.

Make it all the way to the end of this Lost Sector, and you can kill the boss and open the loot chest, just like before. At this point, go visit Amanda once again in The Tower, and she'll actually tell you return to the Whispered Cover Lost Sector straight away.

When you've made your way back to the Whispered Cove, you need to use the transmat pad to make your way to a rather unique location. Don't worry, we're not going to outright spoil the surprise here, but once you've done this final step for the quest line, you'll be rewarded with the Thunderlord Exotic light machine gun.

Destiny 2 Thunderlord Exotic

And here it is, one of the best weapons in Destiny 2. The Thunderlord Exotic is surprisingly accurate, and it has a perk whereby the longer you hold down the trigger, the more accurate it gets. On top of this, continuous damage generates lightning strikes, so it's great for gunning down powerful boss enemies.

Now that we’re all done with this Destiny 2 guide, why not head over some of our additional coverage on the game.
