Dragon Ball FighterZ Character Roster

This being a fighting game at heart, there's obviously going to be a lot of focus over the roster of characters available in Dragon Ball FighterZ. Just below, we've listed the Dragon Ball FighterZ character roster, along with a brief description about them:

  • Android 16 - The character who we previously mentioned has been revived for the game, Android 16 has a deep compassion for others, but he'll do whatever he needs to do to protect his siblings.
  • Android 18 - The eighteenth iteration of Dr. Gero's android series, Android 18 has sided with the Z Fighters android army, by the time the events of Dragon Ball FighterZ takes place.
  • Android 21 - This character is actually brand new, designed by Akira Toriyama, and is set to appear alongside Android 16 in the game.
  • Beerus - As we mentioned above in the beta section for Dragon Ball FighterZ, the announcement of a playable Beerus in the beta would seemingly confirm his addition for the full game.
  • Captain Ginyu - This character is the leader of the Ginyu Force, a squad of elite mercenaries that could have a pivotal role to play in Dragon Ball FighterZ.
  • Cell - Just like he is in the anime and manga series, Cell is one of the primary android antagonists in Dragon Ball FighterZ.
  • Future Trunks - The son of Bulma and Vegeta, Future Trunks has an interest past, since he actually hails from an alternate timeline.
  • Frieza (Final Form) - Frieza has a massive head, not only literally but also metaphorically, bearing a massive ego after crushing the Saiyan race.
  • Gohan - Another character with an interesting backstory, Gohan is the son of series protagonist Goku and his wife Chichi.
  • Gohan (Adult) - Somehow, the adult version of Gohan will also make an appearance alongside his younger self in the game.
  • Goku - The Saiyan who was originally sent to Earth as an infant, Goku is the protagonist of the entire Dragon Ball series, whether in manga, anime, or video game form.
  • Goku (Super Saiyan Blue) - Introduced in Dragon Ball: Resurrection F, the Super Saiyan Blue form of Goku is even more powerful than his base version.
  • Gotenks - This character is actually a fusion of Goten and Trunks, appearing alongside only Trunks in the game.
  • Innocent Buu - Absorbing the Grand Supreme Kai, we get the final form of Majin Buu in the form of Innocent Buu.
  • Kid Buu - The opposite of Innocent Buu, Kid Buu is the most dangerous form of the character, with an unpredictable nature.
  • Krillin - One of the most talented martial artists on Earth, Krillin is the best friend and ally of protagonist Goku.
  • Nappa - The comrade to Vegeta, Nappa is an incredibly powerful, elite Saiyan warrior.
  • Piccolo - A character who looks to be allying himself with the Z Fighter android army in Dragon Ball FighterZ, Piccolo is the former antagonist of Goku.
  • Vegeta - First appearing as a villain in the Dragon Ball series, Vegeta is the crown prince of the entire Saiyan race.
  • Vegeta (Super Saiyan Blue) - Just like his fellow Saiyan Goku, Vegeta can also take on a Super Saiyan Blue form.
  • Tien - A descendent of the three-eyed people, Tien is one of the strongest martial arts fighters on Earth.
  • Yamcha - Once an enemy of Goku, this desert bandit is actually now an ally of the series protagonist.
  • Goku Black - A version of Supreme Kai Zamasu who took over Goku's body in order to destroy all mortal life in the universe.

Although the game will run at a stable resolution of 1080p along with 60 frames per second on Xbox One and PS4, the game will apparently be optimized for higher graphical output on both the PS4 Pro and the Xbox One X, but whether this is on release or in a patch afterwards, we don't yet know.

Speaking of the graphics of the game, Dragon Ball FighterZ employs a eye-popping art style, incredibly faithful to the original anime series. You can see a full gameplay video of Dragon Ball FighterZ just below, which was shown off back at E3 2017:

The events of Dragon Ball FighterZ apparently take place after the conclusion of Dragon Ball Z, and see Android 16 somehow being revived, and then leading an entire army of androids. The all-new character of Android 21 will play a pivotal role in the story of the game, although concrete details on this are scant as of right now.

As for when Dragon Ball FighterZ takes place in the overall timeline of the Dragon Ball universe, it's been noted that Bulma and Android 18 appear as they did in the Dragon Ball F: Resurrection F storyline, while Goku and Vegeta are wearing their regular Gi armor, suggesting that Dragon Ball FighterZ takes place after the events of Universe 6 Saga.
