Shadow of the Colossus Walkthrough

Here we have a complete walkthrough for each colossus you'll encounter in Shadow of the Colossus. If you're stuck on a particular colossus, simply choose the beast you're finding tricky from the list below, or follow through from the start.

Shadow of the Colossus Tips

While Shadow of the Colossus isn't the most complex games, it does have a number of mechanics that you'll need to understand in order to successfully navigate yourself through the quest and defeat all 16 colossi.

  • Raising your sword in the air will give you a guiding light towards your next colossus. The lights will be split unless you're pointing in the correct direction, so spin around until you create a solid beam of light. This is the direction you must head to find the next colossus, but remember that you may well have to navigate around large obstacles (like mountains) in order to reach your destination.
  • To defeat each colossus you must figure out how to climb into its body (this is easier with some than others) and then stab the glowing symbol areas. Each colossus has a health bar (in the top left of the screen), and once you've destroyed each symbol the beast will be killed.
  • You can't hold onto colossi indefinitely. In the lower-right corner of the screen you will see a grip meter. When you hold onto the hair of a colossus this meter will start to deplete, and if it runs out entirely you'll be thrown from the beast and onto the ground. To recharge this grip meter you must stand, not holding onto anything. It's not often this mechanic causes too many problems, but some colossi will require you recharge in order to reach all their weak points.

With these basic tips you should be able to start your adventure into the large and mysterious world of Shadow of the Colossus. Next up is out guide to beating colossus 1 in Shadow of the Colossus.
