Skyrim Special Edition is a fully remastered PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC update for Bethesda's much-loved action RPG, The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. Skyrim on Switch also takes some of the Special Edition enhancements, although doesn't include mod support. It offers hours of quests and exploration, which has helped it become one of Bethesda's most popular games. It also contains all the original game's DLC -- Dawnguard, Hearthfire, and Dragonborn -- which translates into hundreds of hours of extra play.
This page lists all our guides and tips on the game, and goes through every detail on what's included in Skyrim remastered, and what you can do in it - lots of which, handily, we know from the first time we played. But now we can do it all over again in higher resolution, with user-created hats, and with more mods than ever.

The best Skyrim mods for the console and PC versions, and how you can install them.
This is old news to PC players, but mods for the console version are new and exciting - although not quite as much on PS4, unfortunately, due to technical restrictions which mean they can only use the assets on the original game disc. To get an idea of how mods can add to Skyrim's gameplay experience, why not try marrying a vampire?
Here are some more mods for you to toy with -- though beware some of these might have trouble running on the PlayStation 4.

The Best Mods for Skyrim Special Edition on the Xbox One -- While the Xbox One version of Skyrim Special Edition plays more nicely with PC mods than the PlayStation 4, it's still not a bad idea to seek out Xbox One mods via Bethesda's storefront for convenience's sake. Here's a substantial list of great suggestions.

How to Join the Companions in Skyrim
Skyrim's Companions are a brotherhood of werewolves that live in Whiterun. Companions make for strong, valuable allies who always have your back in a fight. You can join up, but you need to prove yourself before you're welcomed into the pack. Joining the Companions comes with a host of benefits, plus you need to be a Companion yourself before you can marry its members.
How to Become a Werewolf in Skyrim
You can run across the snowy plains of Skyrim as a werewolf as long as you meet certain requirements and complete certain tasks. Donning your wolf form comes with a host of combat-related perks, though there are drawbacks you need to be mindful of as well. Here's how to gain the werewolf transformation, as well as information on the form's strengths and weaknesses.
How to Marry Aela the Huntress in Skyrim
If you're looking for a mate to keep you warm during Whiterun's chilly nights, you could do far worse than Aela the Huntress, a Companion who's uncharacteristically proud of her werewolf alter-ego. Not just any schlub can marry this Amazon, however. Here's what you need to do to win her love.
How to Marry Farkas in Skyrim
The laid-back Farkas is worth coming home to, especially since you can't ask for a better partner in a fight. Here's how to woo and marry this rough-voiced werewolf.
How to Marry Serana in Skyrim
While there's no official way to marry a vampire in Skyrim, there's a mod that lets you marry one of the realm's vampires, Serana. Here are instructions on how to download and install the mod - although you won't be able to use it on PS4 because that version doesn't support custom assets, as discussed in our guide to installing Skryim mods on console. .
Skyrim Special Edition Content and New Features
Dawnguard, Hearthfire, and Dragonborn offer a slew of new story-related content, but what makes the remastered Skyrim's included DLC especially attractive is that it lets you build houses and adopt children – exactly you need for a kinder, cuddlier Dovahkiin. Better still, you don't have to work through Skyrim's main story quest to access its DLC content.
Aside from the baked-in DLC, Skyrim Special Edition also boasts enhanced graphics over its original release thanks to new effects like snow shaders and water shaders. You can pretty much work out the detail in every snowflake. Okay, maybe not – but this is admittedly one good-looking game.
PC Skyrim fans will reportedly be able to transfer their old save files over to Skyrim remastered, but unfortunately there isn't an Xbox 360 to Xbox One / PlayStation 3 to PlayStation 4 transfer option.
How to Play Skyrim Special Edition for Free
Skyrim remastered is pretty exciting stuff, but when all's said and done, maybe you don't want to spend full price on an upgraded version of a game you've already played to death. That's cool; some of the aforementioned mods can essentially give your PC version of Skyrim a remastered-quality graphic boost at an attractive cost of zero dollars (barring what you paid for last-gen Skyrim, of course).
We've already listed some of the mods capable of giving your Skyrim experience a present-gen overhaul. Check out the link for instructions on how to add footprints in the snow, rich audio details, realistic lighting effects, varied climates, and much more.
Skyrim's modding community is one of the busiest and most robust on the internet, and it's good that console-based Skyrim remastered players are getting a chance to participate in the fun. After all, there are enough Skyrim mods out there to transform the vanilla experience into something new entirely – and Bethesda confirmed all old Skyrim mods should still work with Skyrim remastered. There may be some technical hiccups, but hopefully those won't be significant (and if they do surface, hopefully the mod creators will smooth them out ASAP).
