Shadow of the Tomb Raider Review Roundup, Trailer, Gameplay, Setting - Everything we Know

Here's everything you need to know about Shadow of the Tomb Raider, including the final release date, all the gameplay we've seen, and our own impressions.

Shadow of the Tomb Raider launched last week for PC, PS4, and Xbox One, bringing a conclusion to the Lara Croft reboot trilogy that began back in 2013. In this Shadow of the Tomb Raider everything we know guide, we'll be compiling a complete list of information you need to know about the latest entry in the franchise, including a full Shadow of the Tomb Raider review roundup, now that the game is out around the world.

Shadow of the Tomb Raider Review Roundup

Back on September 10, reviews were published for Shadow of the Tomb Raider, ahead of the final release. Just below, you can see a sample of reviews from around the web, including final scores and extracts.

  • USgamer: 3.5/5 - "The new additions to stealth are great; the bow continues to be one of the best in all of video games. Then guns enter combat and the self-reflective story falls flat, making Shadow sometimes a chore to get through. The puzzles in those tombs are pretty spectacular though."
  • Eurogamer: No Badge - "This is a well-crafted and polished experience, and when the game actually gives you full control and leaves you alone to seek out its quieter mysteries, it can render you wide-eyed with wonder."
  • The Telegraph: 2/5 - "A severe disappointment in a series that was previously going strong, and a sign that this version of Lara Croft might need to retire."
  • IGN: 9/10 - "There’s so much to enjoy elsewhere in a game that’s stuffed to the brim with ideas and devilishly challenging puzzles. I can’t wait to see where Lara goes next."
  • Gamespot: 6/10 - "Making the journey to Shadow of the Tomb Raider's peaks is certainly an attractive goal, but like the challenging terrain Lara needs to traverse, the path there is getting rougher and more unpredictable."

Alternatively, if you've already got your hands on Shadow of the Tomb Raider, then maybe you'll need a helping hand tracking down all the collectibles scattered throughout the game. Check out our guides just below, for help on the first few areas of the game.

Shadow of the Tomb Raider Release Date

Just below, you can check out the debut trailer that revealed Shadow of the Tomb Raider for the very first time. Shortly after the reveal, Square Enix announced that the Shadow of the Tomb Raider release date would be September 14 for all platforms, worldwide. But, if you pre-ordered the Croft Edition of the game, you could start playing a few days earlier, on September 12.

While Rise of the Tomb Raider launched as a timed exclusive for the Xbox One (eventually coming to the PS4 and PC at a later date), there's no exclusivity for Shadow of the Tomb Raider. Xbox One, PS4, and PC are all getting the game at the same time. It's expected that, just like Rise of the Tomb Raider, Shadow of the Tomb Raider will make excellent use of the 4K power of PS4 Pro and Xbox One X.

The Microsoft E3 2018 presentation on June 10 revealed the trailer you can see just below for Shadow of the Tomb Raider. It's basically a redone version of the debut trailer for the game, showing off Lara taking down various enemies with stealth and firearms.
