Kingdom Hearts 3 Hands-on Preview
We recently attented the Kingdom Hearts 3 preview event in LA, where we went hands-on with the game for the first time. We played through the Olympus area, as well as the Toy Story world, and to find out what we made of it, head over to our full Kingdom Hearts 3 preview.
Kingdom Hearts 3 Release Date and Price
For a long time we had pretty much no idea when Kingdom Hearts 3 would eventually release. It was first shown off alongside the redesigned Final Fantasy XV at E3 2013, and while FFXV released last year, Kingdom Hearts 3 appeared to still be in limbo.
Easing concerns somewhat, 2018 was given as a Kingdom Hearts 3 release date at the 2017 Disney D23 Expo in California, with the brand new trailer featured just below being shown off to the audience.
At the 2018 D23 Expo another trailer was shown off, confirming the inclusion of a Monsters Inc world that had been leaked in December 2017. A 2018 release date was confirmed once again, but no exact date was given.
Later in April 2018, a pre-order listing from Target appeared to claim that Kingdom Hearts 3 would be released on November 1, 2018. However it should be noted that November 1 is a Tuesday, and so it looks incredibly likely that the release date revealed by Target was in fact a placeholder for Kingdom Hearts 3.
The latest Kingdom Hearts 3 trailer also shows off Toy Story characters, Rapunzel, Flynn, and Ariel. You also get a look at the monster forms of Sora, Donald, and Goofy.
If you are into theme songs, then you might like to give “Don’t Think Twice” by Hikaru Utada a watch/listen.
Kingdom Hearts 3 New Monsters Leaked
In late December 2017, an unconfirmed leak from Kingdom Hearts Insider claimed to reveal several new monsters for the upcoming Kingdom Hearts 3. You can see a few screenshots from the leak below, which Kingdom Hearts Insider states are supposedly from a much older build of the game.
The leaked screenshots show Mike, Sully, and Boo from Monsters Inc., but also show the new Door Vault location. Whether these new screens are all factually accurate, we'll have to wait and see.
Kingdom Hearts 3 Wreck-It-Ralph Leak
The latest leak for Kingdom Hearts 3 came about on May 17, when the image below featuring Wreck-It-Ralph released through Reddit.
However this was actually confirmed to be real merely a day later, as Wreck-It-Ralph was revealed through preview coverage of Kingdom Hearts 3. To see what we made of the game as we finally got to go hands-on with it, head over to our Kingdom Hearts 3 preview.
Kingdom Hearts 3 Worlds
Kingdom Hearts is a crossover series, blending the worlds of Disney and Final Fantasy into one, and the player will take on the role of Sora, alongside allies like Donald and Goofy. The group of heroes travel across various worlds, visiting various characters and interacting with them in personal quests and adventures.
The worlds listed below can be entered and explored in Kingdom Hearts 3, and plenty of Disney characters from the likes of Tangled and Big Hero 6 will feature in the game.
- Kingdom of Corona
- Big Hero 6
- Mount Olympus
- Twilight Town
- Mysterious Tower
- Toy Story
The world of Toy Story in Kingdom Hearts 3 was only just confirmed at the D23 Expo 2017, when a trailer for the game showed Sora and his party entering Andy's bedroom, where the Toy Story films traditionally take place. We then met Woody and Buzz, along with other Toy Story characters like Hamm and Rex, all of which will be featured in Kingdom Hearts 3 when it eventually releases in 2018.
It should be noted that, while Disney has acquired the licenses to franchises like Lucasfilm, Marvel, and Pixar, many of these won’t be appearing in Kingdom Hearts 3, due to existing licensing deals, such as EA being given the licensing deal for Star Wars with Star Wars Battlefront.
Kingdom Hearts 3 will revolve around 3-person parties, but other characters can join in the fight in various worlds, so we could see Rapunzel joining our heroes in the Kingdom of Corona. The traversal abilities of our protagonist Sora have also been overhauled, allowing to climb over obstacles in the environment in order to reach and unlock new areas in each world.
Kingdom Hearts 3 Soundtrack
While we know that Kingdom Hearts series composer Yoko Shimomura will be back for the third main installment in the series, Japanese DJ DJ PHI from SERGE recently announced to his fans that he'd been placed in charge of remixing certain battle themes for Kingdom Hearts 3.
We don't actually know if this is all true, as Square Enix has yet to confirm DJ PHI from SERGE's involvement in Kingdom Hearts 3, and we also don't know what tracks he'll be mixing up for which worlds within the game.
For now, this is all the information for Kingdom Hearts 3 that we have to go on, as although a release window of 2018 was recently given for the game after a tumultuous development period, we'll keep our ears peeled for any additional information that breaks about the game.
