Monster Hunter World Anjanath Guide

As we previously mentioned, the Anjanath is one of the most aggressive beasts found throughout Monster Hunter World, and you’re going to want to approach it with extreme caution. Found in the Ancient Forest area of Monster Hunter World, the Anjanath will attack any creature it sees, whether it’s the smaller Great Jagras, or the far larger Rathalos.

We’d recommend going with a weapon that either attacks from range like the Bow or Gunlance, or a weapon that allows you to quickly dodge out of the way of incoming attacks, like the Insect Glaive or the Sword and Shield combination. Dodging the Anjanath’s attacks is paramount in the fight ahead, and you’ll want to take full advantage of any transformation attacks your weapon has on the right trigger.

How to Kill an Anjanath in Monster Hunter World

As with every other creature found in Monster Hunter World, the key to killing the Anjanath lies in hitting it where it hurts. This means two places: the head, and the tail. The head of the Anjanath works as a weak point no matter what sort of weapon you’re wielding, as if its a heavy/bladed weapon you can stun the Anjanath by hitting it in the head with a charged attack, and the same goes for any ranged weapons, like the Bow’s piercing shot.

The tail of the Anjanath however, can only be severed by using a bladed weapon, like the Switch Axe, Great Sword, or Long Sword. Any of these weapons will work well against the Anjanath, but particularly the Long Sword, as it won’t penalise your mobility while you’re attacking. If you can manage to sever the tail of the Anjanath, you’ll have taken one of its primary weapons out of the fight, and you’ll also be able to examine its tail using Circle/B to recover any items like an Anjanath Scale or Anjanath Pelt.

The Anjanath has a trick up its sleeve: the ability to spit fire at your character. Once you’ve delivered enough damage to the Anjanath, it’ll sprout fins on its back and head, indicating that it’s going to start going berserk. Whereas the Anjanath had fairly vicious swiping attacks with its feet and head before, it’s now going to start breathing fire out of its mouth. Keep in mind that although the fire attack can be deadly if you’re not wearing fire-protective armor, it does have a fairly big build up, where the Anjanath will rear back its head and you can see flames begin to form around its mouth.

Once the Anjanath has eventually been felled after a long, drawn out battle, you’ll have the opportunity to scavenge its corpse for rare items like the Anjanath Pelt or Anjanath Scale, but your chances of obtaining a Flame Sac are drastically increased if you manage to capture the beast alive using a trap and a Tranq Bomb.

I feel so lucky that I got odogaron during my first hunt. I am new to MH and I was really intimidated with this monster. I always run away when he is close by, as I play solo right now. He is the ugliest monster for me and the most brutal (as a low rank hunter). I main Insect Glaive, Pulsar Rod III, and I mixed and matched Legiana Armor and Hornetaur Armor for him. I trapped him and oh thanked god I got him! Astera jerky is a must have too!
