Destiny 2 DLC Expansion Release Dates

Before Destiny 2 had even launched back in September 2017, there was already talk of two initial DLC packs for the shooter. This was the Curse of Osiris and Warmind DLC packs, which launched in December 2017 and May 2018, respectively. However before the latter expansion had even been released, Bungie was already teasing an upcoming third DLC pack.

In June 2018, this third expansion pack was revealed by Bungie to be the Forsaken DLC pack for Destiny 2, which you can read all about just below. The major DLC drop was given a release date of September 4, 2018, looking to fill the Taken King slot of the original Destiny.

Destiny 2 Forsaken DLC Expansion

Bungie finally revealed the Destiny 2 Forsaken expansion in the livestream just below on June 5. While the overall stream was dedicated to Bungie's plan for Year 2 of the online shooter, there was a big focus on the Forsaken expansion for later in 2018.

The big news from the stream is that we'll be journeying back to the Reef from the original Destiny in the Forsaken DLC. While this probably means that the Fallen are going to play a big part in the expansion, Bungie did briefly show off a brand new type of enemy, called the Scorn, which we'll be rounding up and bringing back to prison after an escape in the opening.

Weapon types are being completely wiped away in the Forsaken expansion, so you'll be able to equip whatever weapons you want in your three slots when it releases. Existing subclasses for the Titan, Hunter, and Warlock will be getting new Super Abilities, and there's also a brand new weapon: the bow and arrow.

There's also the brand new mode called Gamit, where two teams of four player compete against each other and hordes of AI enemies, while also being able to invade each other's games. Finally, there's a brand new Raid, dubbed the 'Dreaming City', which marks the first Raid activity in Destiny 2 which doesn't take place in Leviathan.

When talking to Gamesradar recently over the course of E3 2018, Bungie's Steve Cotton revealed that Daily Heroic Story missions would be making a return with the Forsaken DLC pack. "You can do the Heroic Story missions, other daily challenges, some that are less frequent than daily but more frequently than every week, that kind of stuff", said Cotton.

Destiny 2 Forsaken E3 2018 Trailer

At Sony's E3 2018 presentation on June 11, we got the story trailer just below for the Destiny 2 Forsaken expansion. The story is the main focus of this new trailer, and focuses on Cayde-6.

Destiny 2 Forsaken Gambit Impressions

We recently got a hands-on preview of Destiny 2's Gambit mode, set to be included in the upcoming Forsaken expansion. As the mode rolls on, you have to kill as many enemies as quickly as you can, working agaisnt the opposing team. The enemies you kill will sometimes drop motes, and it's up to you to take these motes back to base and bank them.

Bank 75 motes, and the big boss of the Gambit mode will show up. There are variables in the Gambit mode that Bungie are obviously hoping will keep the mode fresh: when some motes are deposited into the bank, it'll trigger buffs for the enemies you're fighting against, making the grind significantly harder.

We ultimately came away pretty impressed with the Gambit mode, even if it is overly simple. However, it isn't the selling feature of the whole Forsaken expansion, and we're hoping other elements of the DLC can step up.

Destiny 2 Annual Season Pass

Whereas the Expansion Pass for Destiny 2 only covered the Curse of Osiris and the Warmind expansions, Bungie has introduced the brand new Annual Pass. This will include the following:

  • Forsaken Expansion in Fall 2018.
  • Black Armory update in Winter 2018.
  • Joker's Wild update in Spring 2019.
  • Penumbra update in Summer 2019.

The main difference, according to Bungie, is that the three updates after the Forsaken expansion will all focus on big content drops, instead of new cinematics. While we don't yet know what's in store for the three future updates planned by Bungie, we do know that the Forsaken expansion will retail for $40, with the whole Annual Pass costing $70 in total.

Destiny 2 Warmind DLC Expansion

After various leaks from GameStop and the Xbox Live Store, Bungie finally announced the Warmind expansion on April 11 for Destiny 2. The release date for the Warmind expansion has been pegged in for May 8, 2018, at the exact same time that Season 3 kicks off for Destiny 2.

In the Destiny 2 Warmind DLC expansion, players will travel to Mars, where Rasputin has awoken, setting off a terrible series of events. The polar ice caps are melting, which has revealed a time capsule in Rasputin's place of birth. The Destiny 2 Warmind DLC introduces a new hero, Ana Bray, a vendor who will also allow players to learn more about Clovis Bray.

To help you along with the lore behind the upcoming Warmind expansion for the game, there's a brand new Destiny 2 comic launching at some point this week, shortly before the Warmind DLC itself launches early next week. You can get a glipmse of cover star Ana Bray just below:

The Warmind expansion for Destiny 2 is out right now for players around the world, bringing with it a handful of new Strikes, a new Raid Lair further down the line, and plenty new Exotic weapons and armor items. Destiny 2 Crucible Changes With Warmind and Season 3

  • Crucible ranks: Valor rank involves progression over time with no penalty for dropout, while Glory rank is much more difficult and is attached only to competitive playlists. Progression is tied to results, so it improves if you win and decreases if you lose.
  • Each rank includes streak bonuses
  • Crucible rewards change in Season 3, with two new emblems and new rewards.
  • One specific weapon to chase each season - Redrix's Claymore in Season 3.
  • Private Matches are back, similar to Destiny 1 but with some improvements.
  • Two new maps: Solitude and Survival - require Warmind ownership in order to use in private matches.

Destiny 2 Curse of Osiris DLC Expansion

The Curse of Osiris DLC expansion for Destiny 2 launched back on December 5 for all Expansion Pass holders. For a comprehensive guide to everything featured in the first expansion for Destiny 2, as well as a guide on how to complete every new quest and Heroic Public Event, head over to our Curse of Osiris guides hub.

The Destiny 2 Curse of Osiris expansion also featured the Rise of Iron character Shiro, who was last seen in the final expansion for the original Destiny, and it also marked the first time players had access to Mercury in Destiny 2. The Lighthouse was previously only accessible in the original Destiny through a flawless run in the Trials of Osiris mode, but this time it functions as the new social hub for the expansion.

The Heroic Strikes start with a recommended Power level of 270, and you can see some of the brand new armor items for the Hunter, Titan, and Warlock classes just below.

Destiny 2 Curse of Osiris Raid Lair Expansion

The brand new Raid Lair launched slightly after the Curse of Osiris expansion launched in early December 2017. Taking place on the planet of Leviathan, but completely separate to the Leviathan Raid itself, the Raid Lair will feature brand new encounters, puzzles, and completely new final boss to the Leviathan Raid.

This is the culmination of all the information that we currently have on the Destiny 2 DLC, but we'll be sure to keep this guide updated with any new information the moment it breaks.
