Ghost of Tsushima Release Date
Sony announced Ghost of Tshushima all the way back at Paris Games Week 2017. Sucker Punch was revealed as the developer behind the samurai game, but it wasn't until E3 2018 until we actually saw the game in action for the first time. Despite the lengthy gameplay demo, we still don't have a release window, let alone a release date, for Ghost of Tsushima at this point in time. Therefore we can only speculate about potential release windows for Sucker Punch's ambitious game, and a release window of either late 2019 or at some point in 2020 looks on the cards.
Ghost of Tsushima E3 2018 Gameplay
At Sony's E3 2018 presentation, Ghost of Tsushima was one of the major titles shown off. The game was introduced via a live performance of traditional Japanese music, in what ended up being a bit of a stunted show overall.
After this, there was just under ten minutes in total of Ghost of Tsushima gameplay, which shows the main character fighting off the Mongol invasion force. There's a climactic boss battle of sorts right at the very end, and there will also be climbing sections in the samurai game.
In the aftermath of the gameplay reveal for Ghost of Tsushima over the course of E3 2018, gameplay director Nate Fox spoke to Kotaku about the upcoming samurai action game. Fox revealed that he was relieved that Assassin's Creed didn't steal their game's thunder by going to Japan first, and that the team is taking inspiration from Akira Kurosawa films like 13 Assassins, as well as the real life island off the coast of Japan, where the actual game takes place.
Ghost of Tsushima Trailer
You can see the debut trailer for Sucker Punch's Ghost of Tsushima above in this page, which is mainly a teaser trailer for the game. However the description of the trailer gives more away, reading "The year is 1274. Samurai warriors are the legendary defenders of Japan-until the fearsome Mongol Empire invades the island of Tsushima."
In Ghost of Tsushima, you're going to playing as the last surviving samurai warrior called Jyn on the island of Tsushima. We're going to waging a war single handedly against the invading Mongol forces, all while "forging a new way to fight", according to the description for the reveal trailer.
Ghost of Tsushima Tech Breakdown
E3 2018 saw the first gameplay footage of Ghost of Tsushima released. Our friends at Digital Foundry looked over the E3 footage, captured on a PS4 Pro, and produced an in-depth video breaking down all the tech features. With a fair amount of dev time still to go on this, the game is already looking great.
Ghost of Tsushima Historical Accuracy
Speaking to GameSpot, co-director Chris Zimmerman revealed that Sucker Punch had been studying the island of Tsushima at great lengths. However despite this, the game wouldn't be entirely historically accurate.
"The way I think about it is: we're going to deviate from historical truth, we just want to do it intentionally. A lot of the support we get from our friends from Sony in Japan, and our Japanese friends in Sony US, and all the cultural consultants we've assembled to help us do this stuff, is to make sure we don't deviate accidentally. There are things we are going to do that are different and we want to choose those wisely", said Zimmerman when asked about historical accuracy.
Zimmerman says that the armor the characters wear in Ghost of Tsushima won't be historically accurate, because people already have a perception of what a samurai should look like. It's an interesting take from Sucker Punch, and we'll have to see how it pans out for the game as a whole come release.
Ghost of Tsushima Japanese Audio Option
As first reported by our sister site Eurogamer, Sucker Punch revealed at E3 2018 that there would be a Japanese audio option for Ghost of Tsushima. This means that you can play the entire game with a Japanese voice cast, along with English subtitles. Although "the details are still being worked on", according to Eurogamer, we should likely expect the Japanese audio option to be available when Ghost of Tsushima eventually launches.
This is all part of Ghost of Tsushima's bid to give players an accurate representation of historical Japan. Although the Mongol Invasion is just a jumping off point for an entirely original storyline, Sucker Punch still want to be able to immerse players in Japan, hence the additional of the native audio option for the game.
Ghost of Tsushima Pre-Order
