2017 has been a great year for video games. Not only did we get a new console in the form of the wonderful Nintendo Switch, but we also got the powerful Xbox One X, giving the Xbox One brand a much needed shot in the arm. But consoles are only as good as the games they play, so we’ve rounded up the very best games of 2017 to you know what you should be playing on each machine.

The Best PS4, Xbox One, Switch, and PC Games of 2017

Read on for a brief rundown of the very best games released for each of the main platforms in 2017. Then click through to the full article for each to get more detail on the games that made 2017 so great.

Best PS4 Games of 2017

The PlayStation 4 has had a great 2017. Despite competition from the Switch and Microsoft launching the Xbox One X to combat the PS4 Pro, PS4 owners have once again had plenty of exclusive games to play and the widest selection of third-party offerings.

2017 has been so good that some big hitters aren’t even on our list. Where is Horizon Zero Dawn we hear you ask? Well, while it looks incredible, it just didn’t grab us. 2017 also saw Sony launch PlayLink, bringing back the casual gaming feel the PS2 (and PS3) did so well with the likes of Buzz and SingStar.

Best Xbox One Games of 2017

The Xbox One has had a rocky year that ended on a high thanks to the Xbox One X. The year started with exclusive, Scalebound, being cancelled. This was followed by big exclusives Crackdown 3 and Sea of Thieves both missing 2017.

Thankfully we’ve still had games like Forza 7 and Cuphead to enjoy, and the Xbox One X has breathed new life into a back catalogue of titles that is pretty impressive.

Best Nintendo Switch Games of 2017

Although the Switch only launched in 2017 it’s already a firm favorite amongst gamers, helped by what has been a pretty incredible run of releases. Breath of the Wild, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, Arms, Splatoon 2, Super Mario Odyssey, and Xenoblade Chronicles 2 have all contributed to a brilliant first year.

It remains to be seen if 2018 will be as impressive, but Nintendo is onto a winner with the Switch and you can bet it won’t want to see the momentum fade away.

Best PC Games of 2017

The PC is a strange beast. PC gaming is still seen by many as a fairly niche hobby, despite it being easier than ever to get into and the home for a vast array of titles. 2017 was another great year for the PC gaming market.

If you want to seriously play an MMO, the PC is still the way to go, and eSports such as Overwatch and League of Legends are PC focused. PC is also by far the best way to experience VR, as long as you have a good enough system.

We’ve also go Mike’s favorite games of 2017, Tom’s favorite games of 2017, and Nadia’s favorite games of 2017.
