"We are excited to announce that Red Dead Redemption 2 will be released on October 26th 2018. We apologize to everyone disappointed by this delay. While we had hoped to have the game out sooner, we require a little extra time for polish," reads the post.
"We sincerely thank you for your patience and hope that when you get to play the game, you will agree the wait will have been worth it. In the meantime, please check out these screenshots from the game. We look forward to sharing a lot more information with you in the coming weeks."

A bunch of impressive new Red Dead Redemption 2 screenshots were also released, which we've got for you below. While Rockstar is yet to reveal much info on the game, you can't say that it doesn't look very impressive.
Rockstar released trailer no. 2 for Red Dead Redemption on September 28, which you can see for yourself just below. It looks like we'll be playing as outlaw Arthur, when Red Dead Redemption 2 eventually releases.
Playable protagonist Arthur Morgan is actually a member of Dutch's gang, and we won't be playing as John Marston, as people had previously speculated. There's a heavy emphasis on the story of the gang in the trailer, and we can see a train heist and hunting with a conventional bow and arrow taking place.
Red Dead Redemption 2 Gameplay Leak Rumor - Red Dead 2 Battle Royale Mode
Trusted Reviews were recently the recipients of some Red Dead Redemption 2 development notes, reportedly straight from Rockstar, surrounding several new features about the upcoming game. Firstly, Trusted Reviews report that there will be a 'battle royale' mode in the online portion of the game, as well as 'Revive and Survive', and 'Money Grab' modes.
The Revive and Survive mode pits two teams against each other, and you'll have a limited amount of time to revive your teammates before they're gone for good. In Money Grab, two teams will fight other a stash of gold in the middle of a map, attempting to return it to their base as quickly as possible.
Outside of the aforementioned online game modes, the site also reports that fishing, crafting, and hunting wildlife will also feature in the single-player campaign of Red Dead Redemption 2. The Eagle Eye feature from the original Red Dead Redemption will make a return, but you'll also be able to play the entire campaign in either first or third person, not unlike Grand Theft Auto V, albeit a few years after launch through an update.
Why Was Red Dead Redemption 2 Delayed?
Update: Red Dead Redemption 2 is now due for release in October 2018, delayed from its spring 2018 date. According to Rockstar the reason for the delay is simple: "While we had hoped to have the game out sooner, we require a little extra time for polish."
Rockstar had this to say on the reason for Red Dead Redemption 2's original delay: "This outlaw epic set across the vast and unforgiving American heartland will be the first Rockstar game created from the ground up for the latest generation of console hardware, and some extra time is necessary to ensure that we can deliver the best experience possible for our fans."
Red Dead Redemption 2 - The Wild West Setting and Characters
While the gameplay trailer didn't reveal too many details about the actual intricacies of Red Dead Redemption 2, it did reveal that there would be a gang of seven cowboys featured in the game. Whether these characters are actually the heroes or villains of the story is unknown right now.
As you can probably imagine, these seven silhouetted character images first revealed in the second teaser image posted to the Rockstar Game twitter account prompted massive amounts of speculation. Some have suggested that these characters are the members of John Marston's former gang, with the main character from Red Dead Redemption returning once again as the protagonist, through the sequel actually being a prequel.
This speculation is rooted in fans claiming that the three central characters in the image could be John Marston, Dutch van der Linde, and Bill Williamson, all of which were key characters in Red Dead Redemption. Should this speculation be true, the other characters in the image would be Jack Swift, Red Harlow, Landon Ricketts, and Shadow Wolf.
Red Dead Redemption 2 - The Debut Reveal Trailer
The first trailer for Red Dead Redemption 2 was released by the Rockstar Games twitter account just two days after the logo for the company was posted in red online, leading to speculation of a sequel to Red Dead Redemption.
While the trailer doesn't give away too much about what players can expect to be doing in Red Dead Redemption 2, it did reveal a few tiny details. It's possible that travelling by boat will be a feature in the game, as we see two characters commandeering a small canoe, and we can also see a horse with an animal carcass on its back, possibly revealing this to be a feature in the final game.
The debut reveal trailer for Red Dead Redemption 2 was posted to the official Rockstar Games YouTube account on October 20, 2016, and currently sits at just over 15 million views in total. While YouTube views aren't a sure-fire sign of success, there's definitely a lot of hype building about Red Dead Redemption 2.
Red Dead Redemption 2 PC - Will Rockstar Bring it to PC?
As you've no doubt heard by now, the possibility of Red Dead Redemption 2 coming to PC is something that has only been speculated on. Red Dead Redemption 2 PC has never actually been confirmed or denied by publisher Take-Two or developer Rockstar Games.
At an earnings call, Take-Two president Karl Slatoff was asked about the possibility of Red Dead Redemption 2 eventually coming to PC, to which he replied "any updates about any of our titles will come from our labels". It should be noted that the original Red Dead Redemption never actually came to PC, and it took Grand Theft Auto V (the last game from Rockstar) around five months to arrive on the PC after it released on consoles back in 2013.
So, while Red Dead Redemption 2 still hasn't been confirmed for the PC, it hasn't actually been denied by either the publisher or developer. We'll keep our ears peeled for all the information we can uncover on a PC version of Red Dead Redemption 2.
Red Dead Redemption 2 - Gameplay
Like we previously stated, nothing whatsoever has been shown in relation to gameplay footage for Red Dead Redemption 2, with the only promotional material being the few images and the two short trailers that Rockstar Games has released.
Windows Central claimed that this would all change in the weeks leading up to E3 2017, with Microsoft planning to partner up with Rockstar Games to show Red Dead Redemption 2 running on the Xbox One X, which is due for release near the end of 2017.
This rumor didn’t materialize, with E3 2017 now already feeling like a distant memory. With Rockstar finally giving us an October 2018 release date for Red Dead Redemption 2, surely the first proper gameplay footage can't be far off, can it?
