If you've been playing Pokémon GO since the beginning, you may have been lucky enough to hatch a Hitmonchan or a Hitmonlee from a 10km egg. However, with the release of Gen 2 and the addition of Hitmontop, you'll no longer see them appearing from eggs. Instead, we get the pre-evolved form of this trio: Tyrogue. In this guide we'll tell you how to evolve Tyrogue into Hitmonchan, Hitmonlee or Hitmontop.

If you want a Hitmonlee, Hitmonchan or Hitmontop, you'll now have to rely on a chance encounter in the wild, or hatch a Tyrogue and evolve that instead. However, just like Eevee is in Pokémon GO, Tyrogue has a question mark next to its evolution button making it unclear what it'll evolve into. That is, until you dig into it a little deeper.
What Your Tyrogue Will Evolve Into
Wrking out which evolution your baby Tyrogue will take is a little tricky but there are some ways you can point it one way or the other. Most of the time, it'll be easy to determine what your Tyrogue will evolve into. First you'll want to appraise it, but keep note of what your team leader says is its strongest stat.
In this case, the Tyrogue's strongest stat is its attack, meaning that the Tyrogue above is 100% guaranteed to evolve into a Hitmonlee. If your Tyrogue has one stat that's called out during this evaluation, you can use the info below to determine what it'll evolve into:
- Best stat is HP - Hitmontop
- Best stat is Attack - Hitmonlee
- Best stat is Defense - Hitmonchan
Simple! Well, that is if you have a Tyrogue with a clear best stat. What if the Tyrogue has a tie for its best stat? Unfortunately there's now an element of chance involved. Here are some examples:
- Best stats are HP and Attack - 50% Hitmontop, 50% Hitmonlee
- Best stats are HP and Defense - 50% Hitmontop, 50% Hitmonchan
- Best stats are Attack and Defense - 50% Hitmonlee, 50% Hitmonchan
- All three stats are equal - 33% Hitmontop, 33% Hitmonlee, 33% Hitmonchan
You should now be able to evolve your Tyrogue and understand what the odds are for each evolution. Unfortunately it means that if you hatch a perfect IV Tyrogue, it'll be complete chance what evolution you end up with. That said, it will at least save you wasting Tyrogue Candies if you're guaranteed to not get the one you want. Good luck!
