Monster Hunter World Rajang - Track and Kill the Rajang, All Rajang Armor Sets

Here's our guide on tracking and killing the Rajang in Monster Hunter World, including all Rajang armor sets.

The Rajang is here in Monster Hunter World Iceborne, and it's ready to kick your face in. Throughout this guide to the Monster Hunter World Rajang, we'll be taking you through how to track and kill the new monster, how to kick off the Rajang-related quest, all the Rajang armor sets you can obtain, and more.

Monster Hunter World Rajang

The Rajang has released right now in Monster Hunter World, for Iceborne players only. Check out the reveal trailer for the monkey just below, for a preview of what you'll be going up against.

How to Start the Rajang Quest

To begin fighting the Rajang in a Special Assignment, you need to have completed the storyline of Monster Hunter World Iceborne. Once you've done this, and reached the Guiding Lands, you can follow the steps below to kick off the Rajang quest.

  • In Seliana, head over and talk to the Admiral.
  • Go to the quest board, and embark on the 'Sterling Pride' Special Assignment.
  • You'll need to be Master Rank 24 to take on this new quest.
  • Slay the Kirin with the broken horn in Hoarfrost Reach.
  • Talk to the Admiral again in Seliana.
  • Take on the 'Reveal Thyself, Destroyer' Special Assignement.
  • Defeat the Rajang in battle!

For the fight against the Rajang, make sure to take highly protective armor with you, that's also good against thunder. While the Rajang doesn't have any elemental attacks at first, it does go into a thunder-based mode of attack when enraged.

Additionally, prioritise quick weapons over the likes of heavy hitters like hammers of great swords. You'll need rapid attacks from insect glaives, bows, switch axes, long swords, and the like to take down the Rajang.

The Rajang's enraged mode can be deadly to even the most skilled players. You'll know the monster's enraged when its arms turn a red color, and the fur on its back turns gold. You can either try and outlast the Rajang when it's enraged, or you can deal enough damage to its tail to stagger it out of being enraged.

If you're looking to capture the Rajang, don't use a pitfall trap. The Rajang isn't affected by tranq bombs, and it'll destroy any traps you put down when it's enraged. If you really want to capture a Rajang, wait until it's visibly limping, and put down a shock trap. Although tranq bombs don't work on the monster, a shock trap on a weakened Rajang will instantly capture it.

After you're done fighting the Rajang, don't forget to visit the Admiral again. He'll congratulate you, unlock the Rajang in the Guiding Lands for you to hunt again, and also reward you with a special Rajang Pendant.

If you want to fight the Rajang again after defeating it in the Reveal Thyself, Destroyer Special Assignment, you have two options. First, you can answer an SOS Flare to redo the Special Assignment with other players. Alternatively, you need to head to the Guiding Lands, and level up the volcanic region plus find enough traces of the Rajang around the area to lure it out from the Handler at a camp.

When Does the Rajang Release?

Rajang is out right now! If you update Monster Hunter World Iceborne on PS4 or Xbox One, and download the new title update that comes in at about 1.3GB, you can hop into the game and kick off the Rajang quest straight away.

Currently, there isn't a release date for the Rajang on PC. Iceborne is slated to launch for the PC version of Monster Hunter World in January 2020, so it's likely that Rajang will launch either alongside Iceborne on PC, or just after it.

Do You Need to Own Iceborne to Fight Rajang?

While Capcom hasn't explicitly stated this, it appears that you do need to own the Iceborne expansion to fight the Rajang. Although the monster is listed as a 'free title update,' it's a title update to the Iceborne version of Monster Hunter World, and not the base game.

If you're only just getting started with the new Iceborne expansion, then we'd suggest checking out our complete Monster Hunter World Iceborne beginner's guide.
