UPDATE: Thanks to a post over at Polygon, we know that Red Dead Online beta will launch on November 27. It will only be avilable for owners of the Ultimate Edition, at least for a day. Then, the following day, the beta will open up to those that played Red Dead 2 on release day. On Nov 29, players who played the game within the first three days will get access. Finally, on Nov 30, everyone will get access. The Rede Dead Online beta will start at 8:30 EST / 5:30am PT / 1:30pm UK.
Previously, we'd known that the Red Dead Online Beta would release at the end of November. This is according to Take-Two's Q2 earning's report. Not long left to wait then!
While the Red Dead Online beta is now live, and rolling out for more players over the first few days, a final release date for Red Dead Online hasn't been announced by Rockstar yet. It's also not clear if the beta will roll straight into the final release.
Thanks to the recent IGN interview, we know that Red Dead Online will feature Co-Op play. Director of Design Imran Sarwar revealed the following:
Red Dead Online will use the world and gameplay mechanics of Red Dead Redemption 2 as a jumping off point for a new world of cowboys (and cowgirls) and outlaws that combines multiplayer and cooperative gameplay and narrative components in a huge open world.
Given that Red Dead Redemption 2 is now available in stores, it’s understandable that many fans are upset to hear that the game’s online component isn't yet part of the game. Rockstar has commented on this, and given its reasons for keeping the releases separate, stating:
There are a few reasons for this. The first is that even though Red Dead Redemption 2 and Red Dead Online share the same gameplay mechanics and geography, we see them essentially as separate products that will grow and evolve independently of each other. Also, as we have learned from experience when launching Online games at this scale, there are bound to be a few issues and we want to ensure that we have time to gradually roll out the game and make the experience as smooth as we possibly can for everyone. We believe this way of rolling out will give people the best overall experiences with both single player and multiplayer.
Though Red Dead Online is yet to launch, we do know of a couple of exclusive weapons that will be available at launch. The first is the Stone Hatchet, which was awarded to GTA 5 players on completion of a special quest earlier this year. There's also the Golden Revolver, which was also offered up as part of GTA 5 content. There's no way to get them right now, but we do know they will feature in Red Dead Online.
There are actually a handful of Red Dead Online trophies already active as part of Red Dead Redemption 2. They give a good idea as to some of the online component's features, though some of them are pretty unclear.
