Cyberpunk 2077 is the upcoming sci-fi RPG from The Witcher 3 devs CD Projekt Red. It’s one of the most highly anticipated games around right now, and was recently given a new trailer at E3 2018. Thanks to some new info pouring out of behind the scenes hands-off demo impressions, and some official details from CD Projekt itself, we now have a pretty good idea as to what the game is like. We now know where the game is set, and some details involving the areas players can visit. We’ve gathered them all into the following Cyberpunk 2077 Setting Guide.

Thanks to some new info released by CD Projekt Red, we now know where Cyberpunk 2077 will take place. It’s in a fictional city in California called Night City. It’s a bustling urban environment with an emphasis on vertical exploration. The main character, V, lives in a high rise apartment many floors above ground. It looks to be a great mix of bright, futuristic color palettes, and Blade Runner-esque squalor.
Cyberpunk’s Night City is divided up into six distinct districts. We’ve got info on each one and have compiled it in the following list:
While Cyberpunk 2077 is set in Night City, California, the devs have been clear to point out that the setting is purely fictional, and is an amalgamation of several different cities and cultures. Judging by the trailer, there’s definitely elements of Tokyo, L.A. and New York in Night City, so it seems that it will be incredibly diverse with many separate areas and styles to explore.
In an interview that Eurogamer did with Quest Designer on the game, Patrick Mills, the question of how big the Cyberpunk 2077 map will be came up. Mills responded with the following:
"In terms of specific size, it's really difficult to tell because Witcher 3 was flat, and our game is very vertical. You've got a footprint in Witcher 3 and that's it. But our game just goes up and up and up and up. So we can put a lot of stuff in there. It's going to be really dense."We've got six districts. You just saw a little bit of Watson, which is a fallen corporate giant. Each district will feel distinct. There will be a lot to see and a lot to do. It's very big. It's very big."We can't put a number on it yet. We're still building it. It's difficult to say exactly how big it's going to be and we don't want to put any numbers on it. But it's going to be huge."
It seems that the team are still working on just how big the Cyberpunk 2077 map will be, and given its verticality, it will be difficult to compare to other games like The Witcher 3. From what we saw in the trailer, the world looked huge, and more importantly, diverse, so things are definitely looking good so far.
