Cyberpunk 2077 Romance - Can You Romance Characters in Cyberpunk 2077?

Everything you need to know about romance, sex, and relationships in Cyberpunk 2077.

More details about Cyberpunk 2077 have recently emerged after Gamescom 2018, especially with gameplay finally being shown to the public for the very first time. In our Cyberpunk 2077 romance guide, we'll be detailing everything there is to know so far about romance options in CD Projekt RED's upcoming game, including whether you can have bi, gay, and lesbian relationships in the futuristic game.

For everything else we know about Cyberpunk 2077, you can head over to our Cyberpunk 2077 Guides hub. There you'll find info on whether or not Cyberpunk 2077 is first person, every trailer so far, and more.

Cyberpunk 2077 Romance

CD Projekt Red has never been one to shy away from putting romance options into its games. The Witcher 3 featured a huge range of characters that you could romance via their own unique questlines. Thanks to an interview that Eurogamer did with Quest Designer Patrick Mills, we know that there are similar features in Cyberpunk 2077.

Cyberpunk Will Have More Romance Options Than Witcher 3

One interesting nugget of info gleaned from a Twitter exchange between Redditor u/magired1234 and Lead Quest Designer Pawel Sasko is that Cyberpunk will have more romance options than The WItcher 3. The conversation mentions more variety in heterosexual and homosexual relationships, something which The Witcher 3 was fairly underveloped on.

Cyberpunk 2077 has Full-Frontal Nudity and One Night Stands

Thanks to the aforementioned Eurogamer interview, we now know that Cyberpunk 2077 has romance options. Quest Designer Patrick Mills stated:

"There are definitely romantic encounters in the game, both long-lasting romantic situations and also one-night stands."

After this, there was a slice of gameplay released for Cyberpunk 2077, in August 2018. It was in this that CD Projekt stated that the game would be a "mature experience", and although we saw protagonist V in a heterosexual relationship, back at Gamescom we saw the male version of V in a gay relationship.

Who Can You Romance in Cyberpunk 2077

Cyberpunk 2077 allows players to play as either a male or female protagonist. This changes the romance options that a player has, given that each viable partner has its own preferences. In the interview mentioned previously, it was revealed that a lot of the characters are bi-sexual, meaning they are available as romance options regardless of what gender you choose. Some though, will be off limits.

How to Romance Characters in Cyberpunk 2077

Though we don't have any official details on how romancing characters will work in Cyberpunk 2077, we can look to CD Projekt Red's last game for hints as to what we could expect. In The Witcher 3, there were several characters spread throughout the game world that the player could romance. At first, a generic questline was unlocked for the character, which could be taken in a romantic direction through certain player choices. Eventually, the player is given a choice to pursue a romantic relationship with the character, though they can choose to turn it down if they want.

It's possible that Cyberpunk 2077 will feature a similar Romance system, with romantic options unlocked via certain choices while on a quest. There's also the possibility that the game will feature sex workers existing as merchants in the game world, which was the case in The Witcher 3. We'll have to wait and see if there are any similarities between the two games as we get more info.

That's everything we know about how romance will work in Cyberpunk 2077. We'll be updating this guide as we hear more about specific romance mechanics and options. For more on the game, why not check out our guide on whether or not Cyberpunk 2077 is a First Person Game.
