Capcom's new remake of Resident Evil 3 is following hot on the heels of this year's well-received modern take on Resident Evil 2, and it seems like a tease for 3 is going to be patched into its predecessor along with a new achievement.
On Steam's listings for the Resident Evil 2 remake, there's now a new achievement called "Chasing Jill," with the simple instructions "read a letter left behind by Jill." Resident Evil 2 itself hasn't yet received an update to add whatever new content the achievement's tied to, so there's no telling whether this'll just be a new letter dropped on a desk in the Raccoon City Police Department or something a bit more substantial.
In the series' timeline, the entirety of Resident Evil 2 takes place right in the middle of the events of Resident Evil 3, so having Leon or Claire find a letter from Jill Valentine hidden somewhere isn't out of the question. Months before yesterday's official announcement, Capcom took to Twitter to point out another connection between the two games—the giant holes in walls left by Nemesis' determined rampage through Raccoon City prior to the events of Resident Evil 2. There's a good chance players will be chased by Nemesis in 3 through some of the same areas they explored in 2... so if you thought being pursued by Mr. X was bad, think again.
While there's no word on when this update for Resident Evil 2 will arrive, it seems safe to assume it'll come before Resident Evil 3's remake drops on April 3, 2020 for the PC, PS4, and Xbox One. Resident Evil 3 will also include Resident Evil Resistance, an asymmetrical multiplayer survival game starring a new cast of characters.
